There is an auction tomorrow that contains a '66 c10 bbw lwb. I know it has not "run" for 30 years. It has been 12years since i last was at that location and looked at the truck. 12 years ago, it was a rust bucket. Sitting on 4 flats and cab full of junk and trash. My question.

How much rust it too much? At what point does one say, "to far gone"? When is the cab "not worth the expense of repair"?

Anything is fixable. Nothing is too far gone if you want it bad enough.

It's really a question of....

1. your skill level at rust repair or
2. How deep are your pockets


You combine both those with how rare the vehicle is (can you find another with less rust at a decent price) and how much do you like the vehicle.


My 60 panel is one that I absolutely love. Lots of rust and very expensive to do the repairs. But it is something that is worth the money to me to repair. My brother thinks I'm nuts and wouldn't give a plug nickle for my truck. Its all a matter of opinion.


In your case, a 66 c10 bbw lwb is not all that uncommon. One in really good shape can likely be had for ~$5-6k. (good driver condition).

So, how much is it going to cost to get it and then add in the repair cost. Balance that against a truck that already has the work done.

Would you rather drive the truck right away and enjoy it. Or are you looking forward to the build itself. All factors in deciding.

Bid on it for the value of the parts, if it turns out where you can build it great, if not you have it for parts

The age old answer to that question of how much is it worth is: How much does it weigh? If you get it for scrap value, you can't lose.

Thanks for the reply, I realize that with enough money and a big hammer one can do anything and thus never "too much rust". As for me, at my age, the "want-2-meter" kicks in. I can make the repairs, but just don't know if I "want-2".

I think I just answered the question. I'm getting too old for all this. Think I will just start chasing the babes as a hobby!!! But, I'm too old for that also.
