whos making 82-87 ls swap headers?
Hey all, iv searched a ton of threads and haven't found a definite answer yet, I'm planning a ls swap in my 86 web 4x4 and I can't find any header for it, I was thinking of using 88-98 shorties and i know Doug thorghlys are pricy, iv seen a couple of threads of were people were trying to get posts of what will and won't work but they are older and unfinished, I realy want to get headers befor the swap so I don't have to deal w it in a crunch as i still use the truck occasionally, I have everything planned out from fuel system to motor mounts and fans but no headers yet, I really want to get going on this! Any help would be appreciated. :metal:

Thanks for the reply, those are the Doug thorleys, I knew about them but damn their pricy and out of stock, didn't know if any other company's had come up with anything yet, ud think they would get on something as popular as those would be. Thanks again for the reply!

Re: whos making 82-87 ls swap headers?
i heard the 98-02 f body longtubes fit, I ordered a set from pasesetter, Im not impressed with the fit, the pass side sits real close to the frame rail. I used dirty dingo adjustable motormounts. I had to slided the engine back so far to clear the motormount with the front tube that i now have to have my drive shaft shortened an inch. I wished i would have tried the shoenfield headers, or some 2010 stock or short tube headers, but with the money already spent i've gotta make do with what i bought. the driver side collector points right at the frame, i had to piecut the collector almost into a 45 degree angle for it to run parallel with the frame, and the o2 sensor on driver side now interferes with my shifter so gotta relocate my o2 sensor bung. Also had to grind on the back side edge of the part of motormount that bolts to the frame.

Call Street & Performance in Mena, Arkansas
If they don't stock them on the shelf, they will build them for you. |
Re: whos making 82-87 ls swap headers?
I used Hedman's Muscle Rod series LS swap headers on my 82. 2wd model. They are 3/4 length, I don't see why they would not work on a 4wd truck. Best price was thru brphotrods.

Re: whos making 82-87 ls swap headers?
I used these not long tubes but fit my truck perfect although mine is 2wd I can't see why it wouldn't work for 4wd no stupid angle on the outlet to worry about<a href="http://s1055.photobucket.com/albums/s501/Daaaanz67/?action=view¤t=DA0809BA-E54E-47F4-962E-1FCFA71AA7EE-4467-000006A4E326A9DF.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s501/Daaaanz67/DA0809BA-E54E-47F4-962E-1FCFA71AA7EE-4467-000006A4E326A9DF.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos" /></a>

I was really worried about which headers to run in my 71 4x4, because I stuck with the z-bar clutch linkage, and didnt want to take a shot in the dark and have whatever I went with not fit. I ended up going with Hooker block hugger shorties. These are for any general LS engine, not any specific application, and are just intended for any tight fit swap. They are center dump, and end up parallel to the top of the oil pan, pointed slightly inward. Only problem is that the reducers that come with them are only 2'' , so I'm going to cut them off at the base and weld on 2 1/2", which is what size pipes I plan on running. ONLY $240 on Ebay.

Re: whos making 82-87 ls swap headers?
I know you said you already bought headers but for anybody else looking at this for info...I bought the Doug Thorleys and got them from Shon...great to deal with and the headers are freakin sweet! Mine is 2wd but the fit like a glove...should on 4wd too.

Also for anybody else not looking to spend over 500 bucks...
I used 2010-up Camaro ls3 long tube headers. They required MINIMUM grinding of the frame right next to the bump stops on the bottom. they cost me $250 and are stainless. My truck is a 85 gmc 4x4 and i used the dirty dingo sliding motor mounts. Attachment 1025990 |

Re: whos making 82-87 ls swap headers?
The schoenfelds I used are for a 2wd and on the 4wd it works out good cause the pass side sits up a little higher and makes it easier to run pipe around the t-case, only problem was I couldn't use the support bar from my 208 to the bellhousing, atleast not without modifying it. Everything else fit like a glove.

Re: whos making 82-87 ls swap headers?
The Schoenfeld website states their 1302LS1 headers will fit 73 - 99 trucks. Wonder why Summit has them listed for 88 - 98 fitment?
I'm guessing that, since the 1302's work with the Trans - Dapt mount adapters, they will also work with the Car Shop plates or the Dirty Dingo adjustable mounts? |
Re: whos making 82-87 ls swap headers?
I used 73-87 shorties from street and performance. They fit perfect with no grinding on frame.
