Under bed Spare tire placement
 

Do any of you have a picture of the under the bed spare tire holder and it's placement/orientation?

I got my hands on a used bracket , but am a little perplexed as to how it's supposed to mount.

any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

It just bolts diagonally from one cross brace with a long bolt. Other end at the back uses a threaded rod so you can tighten the special long bolt with the loop that allows you to put a padlock on it. There should be a u shaped part on it the goes up and keeps the tire from sliding off. Bear to lift into place. You can adapt the winch type from a later year to work with ease. I had one until I moved the tank.

Thanks, that's a good start. I bought a used one, and now know I have a few things missing.

How would you route the exhaust with the spare under the bed? Is it routed to the sides after the rear wheel/tire?

I think the stock exhaust just ran down the left side and cleared the spare by a few inches but the pipe was pretty small too. 1-3/4 I think.

Oldcouple is right in that they are a bear to lift up in place by hand. I think most guys raised it back up with the jack and then fastened it down. That loop not only works for a padlock but you can put the lug wrench handle in it and turn it to loosen or tighten it.

I just want to get it out of the bed. I realize it may not be easy to put in place, but i don't plan on putting it on and off often.. pending on how often i get a flat :(.

This is an issue that I need to deal with also as I don't currently have a spare at all. I'm thinking of going to Pull-A-Part and getting one of the skinny little temproary spare tires, and looking at the lift mechanism from a late model Chevy Van or Suburban. It might be pssible to mount it so that you can crank the spare into position like you do on vans and Suburbans. That might be what the orange truck uses.
