Brade pad suggestions.
I'm looking to spend $30-40 on some "quality" pads. :D
Any suggestions? |
i get mine in Pep Boys or Auto Zone
|
brake........
go with raybestos....they come power coated red...clean-up like new for years..... |
Don't use the ones from Auto Zone. That's what I have and constant squealing.
|
I use Bendix brake pads and shoes, always. I wouldn't go with a metalic or semi metalic pad. They will wear the rotor too bad.
|
BUT, organic pads don't last as long or stop as well....The CORRECT way to do a brake job includes turning the rotors/drums and using the type pads that the system was designed for.... Yes semi-metallic can wear the rotor faster, but organic pads are known for hot spotting glazzing over and essentially polishing the rotors to a nice shinny finish, not good...
IMHO, we spend lots of money making our truck go fast, spending a wee bit to make them stop better is money well spent.... Just coming from many years of running a shop and seeing the types of things people do with brakes, just to save a buck.... What's your life, or the life or someone else, worth??? My $0.02.... |
My .04,
The Autozone Performance Frictions last forever, resist fade, and don't squeal but they will tax your rotors. Run them if you need heavy duty braking over the long haul and don't mind buying rotors every three years or so. The Pep Boys "best" pads are junk. Pure Junk. I had a set "blow-apart" in the hills of California while chasing gold. The pads faded after two or three hard pulls on the brakes and then started burning up. By the time I could stop it looked like I had blown the engine from all the smoke. |
I got the Raybestos PG Plus pads at Pep Boys. I also got a set of rotors there ($38 ea.) since mine have been turned a couple of times and don't look so good (wavy looking).
Should I get new bearings too? I was just going to repack them with axle grease. First time to change out rotors too. Anything to watch out for or any tips? Thanks! |
One tip for you...............
Use Mobil 1 synthetic grease in those bearings. |
did those pads come power coated???
you will need seals |
I'm not sure if they're powder coated but they look like they have a nice red paint covering on them.
I'll get some seals, thanks. |
yes that red is power coating....its cool is it not!!!!
spray with brake cleaner time and time again to clean them.... won't rust...my rears are the same....i love it... great choice dude:D |
