Numbers at the top of firewall?
Anybody know what these are, my truck has them on both sides and I've seen other trucks on here with the same thing.
Junkyard, factory, any ideas? Here's some pics, looks like a sharpy? http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/...142E6F52D9.jpg http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/...n/a58c55f3.jpg Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Numbers at the top of firewall?
they are factory assy line markings
ce10934 should match your spid's model number - i.e. longbed 1/2 ton fleetside. Is your truck a gmc (the T, perhaps?) unsure about the stuff on the right, maybe others can chime in |

Re: Numbers at the top of firewall?
The writing on the right side (in the pic, but would actually be the left side of the truck) that says AC30 M49 is the engine and transmission codes, 327 automatic.

I'll have to check the other numbers tomorrow, they are kind of hard to read in the picture. Good to know, I was worried that maybe it got totaled and salvaged maybe, but all the numbers in the glove box, door seal, and frame all match, the frame is straight and drives like a dream. That's a relief off of my shoulders! Posted via Mobile Device |

Well here is what I can offer. The only thing left are the "T"s repeated on both ends of the firewall, I just don't remeber right now where my reference for this is.
Your extended paint SPID callout is 4537AD and all you need is the 537 code denoting the Light Blue and Ivory two-tone paint |

Re: Numbers at the top of firewall?
under the ac flapper, this is actually 4T for an AC truck. Not sure what is to the left of that. I have seen an S on non ac trucks.
Also, behind the distributor, there may be a number from 1-1000. This is the production job number and you may find this on the lower cross member below the radiator, on the back of the speedo cluster and on the brake pedal assembly. |

The numbers on my 72 were almost unreadable. Matched the SPID and build sheet. The job number was also etched into the fire wall above the brake booster. May be hard to see in picture.

Interesting thought on the "T" and "S" being A/C option status. That may very well be so. But I don't agree that in this case the far right set is something other than "Z84" (CST RPO#). This three character group is a common run and size with the next character "T" being a larger size and at a greater angle relative to level. The "T" is however very similar to the model number that follows is a progressive downhill run. To me this indicates the markings were written as seperate, distinct groups. If you have other clear examples of a "4T" grouping in this location without the CST option or other potential option number overlap I'd like to see it. At this point it would appear that "T" alone could indicate A/C, especially as it is repeated on both ends of the firewall.

Re: Numbers at the top of firewall?
Fun to put back on the truck when your all said and done. I scrubbed half of mine off before i knew what i was doing. I some what figured it out and put them back on the fresh paint.

Re: Numbers at the top of firewall?
I think the T is for the trim. T alone, one trim strip; T with 2, upper and lower.

Re: Numbers at the top of firewall?
I guess the CST Bowtie10 are the upper and the side molding the lower?

Re: Numbers at the top of firewall?
Now that I think about it the T2 is probly the two tone ones with the upper & lower trim like you said, and mine is T for the single.
