Angle of Rear Shocks w/ Relocators
Searched around and didn't find anything... Anyone know the actual angle? Looking for the degree measurement of the shocks when using the common ECE/CPP style rear shock relocation. I'd measure my truck, but it's ripped apart on jackstands...
Thanks in advance! :chevy: |

Anyone?

Re: Angle of Rear Shocks w/ Relocators
I've been wanting to check the angle on a stock set-up vs dropped set-up but haven't come across any stockers lately. Maybe I'll throw some shocks/plates back on the 12-bolt in the 64 OE chassis & verify OE angle.

Re: Angle of Rear Shocks w/ Relocators
Thanks guys. I'm trying to figure what my total angle will be after I modify the upper mounts to allow for travel. I know the change will net +5.4-ish degrees, but I don't have a baseline to add to so I can determine loss of effectiveness. May just have to slap it back together and measure. I was hoping someone might know off-hand...

If I don't forget, I'll throw the angle finder on mine in the morning and get the info for you.

That would be awesome!

Well, guess what. I forgot!! Dangit! :dohh: I even drove the truck this morning, but time got away from me and I was almost late getting the boys to school so I left in a hurry. I only live a mile from work, so I'll get the angle finder out when I'm at home for lunch break.

Re: Angle of Rear Shocks w/ Relocators
The angle of the shock is only relevant if all the varibles are the same.
The frame needs to be level, with an angle finder on the shock. Vehicle rake (setting on the ground) is going to throw of the shock angle numbers. |
Re: Angle of Rear Shocks w/ Relocators
OK, on my truck with a 5" ECE drop spring, and ECE shock relocator kit, and on level ground, the shocks are at a 30 deg forward angle and around 10-12 deg(hard to read) inward angle.
I also have a 4.5" front drop(2.5" spindle and 2" spring all from ECE) and a 3/4" rear drop block. Drop blocks shouldn't change the shock angle since only the axles themselves are raised. I hope this helps. |
Re: Angle of Rear Shocks w/ Relocators
Helps immensely, thanks! Gives us all a good idea of what the relocation brackets actually accomplish and how much effective loss of dampening occurs. Comparing this to a stock setup would get us even more valuable data--I may have to crawl under my neighbor's truck
