High hump or not?

Hey, I'm a Newbie here as I've just purchaced a 64 Pickup and am sending back to Australia to build. (loving the forum so far)

I have orded porterbuilt dropmember and need the high hump, prob is i haven't actually seen the truck yet as its still in storage in CA waiting for more parts to be shipped with it.

So i cant tell if it has the high hump or not, it does have a Muncie 4 speed in it but not sure if it was standard or not or if that gearbox needed the high hump if it was installed.

Can you tell from the Vin what engine or gearbox it has?

Thinking of just trying to sort one just incase as its impossible to find one in Oz, but finding one is seeing to be a prob also.

This is only photo i has that can kinda see near it

Unfortunately the VIN doesn't tell you much about these trucks. The real indicator of what came on it from the factory is the SPID (Service Parts Identification) sticker that is in the glove box. I personally couldn't tell you about what kind of hump it is, but this forum is filled with many knowledgeable guys so I'm sure one will help you out soon enough. As a side note, it looks like it is in very nice condition from the picture you posted. Good luck with it!

I really can not see enough in the pic to say one way or the other. That Muncie 4 speed could be installed with either a short or high hump. Typically the trucks that originally came with a 3 speed manual or auto trans had the short hump. The trucks that came with the SM420 4 speed had the high hump.

A short time ago somebody posted pics of high hump vs low. It was very useful when I ordered carpet. I didnt save pic but it is in the forum if you search.

Re: High hump or not?

Hey thanks guys for the input,

Ok so it looks like the vin or gearbox isn't going to help.
And I have seen the thread on vs low but it didn't say anything about vin numbers or gearboxes.

I think it may be better to just get one now before everything gets shipped out.

I have searched for the high hump, there is a few different ones around but not in CA , So if a local to Calfornia knows any wrecking yards that would post to Compton that would be great!
Or better still have one laying around
Thanks

I understand i have to get the primary and secondary Pieces for it to fit properly.

What are the photos i see that look like one piece bolt on ?

and is around $110 norm prices for both pieces?

Re: High hump or not?

Yes the cover itself bolts on. The mating piece between the cover and the firewall, is spot welded in. As long as both pieces are in good condition, $110.00 is not a bad price. That is close to what I have sold them for in the past.

I would try Memory Lane Collector Car Dismantler. It is not to far from Compton. The only other ones that I know of are in Sunland CA. Try googling Pick-a-Part or You Pick Your Part.

Hey forest, thanks for the info but i just rang them and they said you have to personally go look and pull it out , as i am not in the USA it makes it hard.

I can get one sent from 4-5-6 wrecking yard in Kansas City delivered for $155 for both but that seems i bit much and they don't have photos of it.

paulspickupparts from this forum is gona pull one out he has and see the condition so hopefully that works out, still a few states away though .
