08 GMC Sierra heater core

Earlier this summer the heater core busted and since I was on a tight schedule at work decided to just bypass it for time being under the hood and fix it after mt install season was over. Well that time has come so I called the dealer today to see what they would charge to change it out. I now need health insurance so i can go get the heart condition fixed that they caused with their quote. They want $895.00 to replace it. Said it will take 3 days and they have to rip the entire dash out to change it. Now what kind of brainiac engineer designs something that you have to go to those lengths to change a friggin heater core. If its that dam hard I may just trade the truck in. Its got 220K miles on it anyway.

The price sounds right for a dealer, The time doesnt.....1 day turn around.
I guess they are trying make you feel better by saying it takes 3 days???

Does the entire dash really have to come out? Are any special tools needed? I am not that familiar with the newer trucks layout but for roughly 800 in labor I am certainly willing to get aquanted . It just floored me when the girl gave me the quote. It sure as heck ain't my 69'

Yes....The entire dash needs to come out, Then the HVAC module, Then the heater core cover, Then the heater core. The a/c system will also need to be drained & refilled.

A factory A/C '69 isnt the easiest heater core either, Though non-air trucks are a breeze.

Thanks for the response. Thats what I guess I needed to hear. Not something I have the patience or tools for. Guess i will schedule with the dealer, can't go the winter with no heat. All my 69's never had ac they were a breeze to change the cores.

Thanks again
Richard
