Picture request
I'm working on my 1960 GMC with the 305 V6. I found a cut wire that is by the coil. Can someone post a pic of the coil and wiring in that area? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :gmc2:

Re: Picture request
I'm hoping to see how the ballast resistor (if there is one, the wiring diagram in my book shows one) is wired in, and the wires going to the + side of the coil. The main wire in question is the green wire that is on the + side of the coil. I can see it goes from the coil and in to the harness and down towards the starter, but there is part of it that looks like it comes from the plug on the fire wall right above the coil. That green wire was cut...not sure how it is supposed to be hooked up. Thanks.

These are the best I can offer. It was a long time ago when photo quality wasn't all that great:

Re: Picture request
Awesome, thanks!!! I've been doing a lot of searching and I think I have the green wires figured out. Also, it looks like the original power wire (a pink wire iirc) going to the coil was cut at the ignition switch and then another wire was ran with a ballast resistor going to the coil.
Do these truck use a ballast resistor? |
Re: Picture request
My 61 GMC does not have a Ballast resistor; I believe the resistance is in the wire.

Re: Picture request
Not sure if this will work. If it does, the yellow wire is the resistor wire, the blue goes to an after market tach

Here are some pics I took of my 61. The double green wire comes out of the harness and goes to the Positive terminal. The Negative side has a red wire that comes from below the Distributor and a green tach wire.

Thanks for the help. I've put the engine side of things on hold until this weekend, gonna buy new plugs, coil, cap and rotor. Until then I'm working on the back brakes. |
