help me start my engine plz
 

My 82 c10, with original 250 4.1

I have changed sparkplugs wires,oil,valve cover gasket, used to start and drive,
I took all the hoses and gas lines apart
Now im ready to get it running, I have installed the carb and the gas line that goes from pump to carb, I tried to start it up, only turns over but wont start, also the fuel tank is not there I too it out so I got the fuel pump hose and inserted into a bottle with gas, it sucks it in but bo start, also I am concern about the spark plugs wires because they were from my 1994 Chevy blazer, I checked the spark plugs and there is no firring, any ideas?
What do I need to connect to b able to start it up?

i thought cetain wires have a certain resistance with them
so maybe those wires for your chevy blazer
have a different resistance compared to those for your truck

no spark at all on any plugs?...doubt its plug wires...check to make sure you plugged in the red power wire to the dist cap

Now I will try to hook up my new 16gallon fuel tank on my 82 shortbed I hope it fits because it originally came with an smaller gank but I missplace the order and got the biggest one

should fit, I think 16 gallon is the smallest, bigger was like 20 gallons on long beds.

Im getting ready to replace mine in the next few weeks so please keep us updated.

Glad to hear that lol but my truck is shortbed, 16gallon barely fits I had to buy another strap at the junkyard for the tank

Unless you have a very weak ignition system, the resistance of the wires should be a negligible effect.

Manufacturers started using carbon wire and other high-resistance conductors in spark plug wires right about the time that radios and other electronics became prevalent. Solid metal-core spark plug wires emit tremendous amounts of electromagnetic noise that can interfere with electronics, and the easiest way to eliminate that noise at the time was to add resistance to the spark plugs and the wires.

Low-resistance wires have been widely claimed by many to be the key to horsepower gains, largely because it seems so logical, and also because it's a very easy visual effect to show a brighter spark in an advertising campain. Truth is, while a healthy spark is indeed necessary to start combustion, more isn't necessarily better. I can crush a soda can just fine by running it over with my 1600lb truck, running it over with a 30 ton bulldozer isn't significantly "better".

I was looking at the spectra GM11A for mine but havent ordered it yet

I bought the spectra premium part number GM1B from advance Auto parts for 70bucks

Ok im having another problem! Now it will start when I put some gas on the carb, but once I let the acelerator go it shuts off,? What can it be? I think im also having problems with the way I hooked up the carburator does anyone have a diagram of the throtle how to hook it up, also some vaccum lines are not hooked up. Maybe thats why it shuts off?

That simplifies things more than you know. A little starter fluid or gas through the carburetor is a valuable diagnostic tool.

If your truck fires when you pour gas down the carb, it tells you that your ignition is indeed working, your valves are working, and your timing is close enough to run. It means the problem isn't in the engine itself, but in the feeding portion. The problem is in your carburetor.

Your first step is making 100% certain the carburetor is hooked up properly.

thats the problem i have never messed with a carb before and i unhooked everything off the carb and im trying to put it back together i have seen that whenever i fired it up , at the bottom of the carb is wet with gas!

You need to find that leak and fix it. Is it only wet around the base or is it running down from the fuel filter fitting or somewhere else?

Hook up the vacuum advance and cap the rest of your vacuum ports on the carb for the time being. You can sort the rest once you have it running.

I usually fill the float bowl through the vent with fresh clean fuel. If it leaks right back out then you have a problem.

maybe the float got dirty and is stuck open?
the only vacuum you need to worry about it the advance for now
maybe if you can get someone to fire it up and spray some carb cleaner you can probably find where its leaking from, just spray it around the base and maybe some inside the carb too

and i just though about it and i cant do that because the engine doesnt stay on,
when i put gas on the carb it starts up with all acelerator to the floor once i let the acelerator go it shuts right off, like loosing power,
