72 4X4 Rear leaf spring ??
have a 72 1/2 ton 4x4 that has 2 or 2 1/2 lift blocks in the rear. I am going to remove them. Do I need anything in place of them? Or do I just need some shorter U bolts?
Where is the best place to buy the correct type U bolts? thanks, Ray |
Re: 72 4X4 Rear leaf spring ??
So you want to lower the truck by removing the lift blocks well you will have to buy new stock length ubolts, any speed shop auto parts shop like Napa can supply them or even a dealer or 4x4 Offroad shop.

Oh one other thing, if the back is lifted by blocks then the front should also be lifted, usually by heavier or rearched leaf springs so those will have to be changed also to lower the front to match the rear drop. So stock leaf spring packs.

Actually, the front is stock, that's why I would like to remove the rear blocks. I just want it factory height.

Re: 72 4X4 Rear leaf spring ??
Before you buy new u-bolts, remove the blocks and see how it sits. I pulled the 4" lift off my truck, put it all back together with new u-bolts, and it now sits about 1" low in the back. The rear springs are saggy, and I'll need a set of 1" blocks to get it right - and - I'll have to buy another dang set of u-bolts to accommodate the 1" blocks. I think they're about $40 a set at Napa if I remember right.

Good idea Domeier, at least check first, maybe that's why someone put blocks in. Did it sit real high with the blocks or just a bit of rake, gives you an idea ahead of time. Maybe you could pull the blocks and try and if too low add a good used long leaf spring to the pack which I have done quite a few times and usually adds about an 1" to 1 1/2" height and would help the old spring packs.
