viair 480c leaking back out?!
I can air my truck out and watch it leak down in no time. I may have accuired more leaks but the compressors leaking for sure. Its leaking out the very port it pulls air from. Ive already loosened the braided line and I thought it fixed it so its either Im crazy or it did. I can start with a new line I guess if its possible it just failed. Worse case scenario whats wrong and whats it cost to rebuild it and whats all involved?

Re: viair 480c leaking back out?!
It is probably the check valve being jammed in the leader hose. Definitely replace the line and that will fix your issues there. I doubt it has to be rebuilt as they are very reliable compressors, but if it does need it, we can get you the parts.
Give me a call on Monday and I can help you out and get you the leader hose. Travis Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: viair 480c leaking back out?!
Im wanting to say that its 3/4 from the tank and the braided hose is large too. Whatever size it is it was leaking and I tightened it, the newbe in me overtightened it and Im sure thats all it is.

The 480C Will have a 3/8" NPT leader hose. Yes, if overtightened it can jam that check valve. Sometimes they can be saved though. Just remove, re-seal and thread back in. Just snug it in, as it won't take much to seal the threads. If it leaks out of the threads, give it 1/4 turn and check again. Fill the system and see if the check valve is working freely by not letting air back through.
A very good sealant to use is Loctitie 545, instead of teflon tape. If the check valve just won't free it self by removing and re-installing without as much torque, then let me know and I can get you a new one. Travis |
