1987 R10 - Dual Tanks to Single
 

Got a fresh built 383 with a big block TBI finally running correctly today. Because of the need for over 14psi I installed a high pressure pump on the rail of my right side tank and bypassed the switch. Not going to bother with the left side tank as I'm not sure how the switch valve would appreciate all that.

I'm really looking to just drop both the side tanks and go with a single tank. For both simplicity and necessities sake. This is just my weekend truck to have some fun on the street with and haul things occasionally. I only need one 15-20 gallon tank really.

Saw the custom tank Brothers makes but that is about $500 just for the metal. I've heard of some using Blazer tanks I believe but not sure how that fits and mounts underbody.

Just trying to consolidate some opinions on potential avenues. I know a fuel cell in the bed is probably the easiest route but I want to keep the bed space as it's SWB. All opinions and suggestions welcome....just trying to get some ideas. I would prefer to keep it simple though....I'm not a metal fab expert by any means...

I am new to square body trucks but I have been researching fuel systems, pumps, tanks and so on for my 1987 V20 and it appears that your R10 had a 16 gallon tank option that uses the same tank as my V20.

I will be putting a 25 gallon Blazer tank in my C-10 shorty between the rear frame rails in the Spring.

Thanks but that's still a side tank. I have those. I'm looking to go to one single tank.

You have a write up you'll be looking at or are just going to fab everything as you go?

What kinda pressures are you working with? I think if its under 20 you should be fine leaving the switching valve in. 14 psi is not much. Also you stated you only needed around 16g, so that is the standard for swb. Anything other than 16g will require mods....


just might add... i am going back to the dual fuel tanks. soon...

Why didn't you get a higher pressure fuel pump and put it in place of your tbi
Pump?Im running 22 psi and put a vortec pump in place of the tbi pump.If you
still want to go single tank between the rails fuel cell guy here in tx quoted me like 675 for aluminum tank,sending unit,and pump.I just need to get him some measurements cause he don't have none for our 87s.
