6x9 Box
1 Attachment(s)
After I remove the gas tank, I want to put a couple of 6x9 3-ways behind the seat of my '71. Is there any advantage to building a box versus store bought like pictured below? Does a bigger box produce deeper, punchy bass?
I made some temporary boxes to throw under the seats and they sound hollow and flat. |
Re: 6x9 Box
6x9 won't give you a whole lot of base and having them under the seat will muffle your highs and mids
a subwoofer under the seat works because base will travel thru the seat if you can't see your tweeter you won't get the highs if you make your own box, you might be able to angle them out towards the doors and pick up some more mid range if you want more base look at the interior build link in my signature while my gas tank enclose is for my 58 it could easily be modified to your 71 |
Re: 6x9 Box
I make 6x9 cab corner brackets for 67-72, check my signature to learn more about them. If you have any questions, let me know.

Re: 6x9 Box
Does anyone know if there is a differance in sound quality between the store bought small boxes versus one large box with the speakers pointing out the sides?

a lot depends on where they're located and where the point

Re: 6x9 Box
Most 6x9s are infinite space speakers, so some do not like boxes. make sure you check the specs on the speakers before you buy anything. I run mine in panels on the floor wedged between the seat and floor, and they sound fantastic. I also run a high pass, because I have a sub and dont need much bass coming from them.
