Have you thought about ceramic coated headers or a mini starter?

The 88-99 trucks came with a small heatshield. Look at Jegs or Summit's site. They should have aftermarket heat shields...

Possibilities
Most of the early GM stuff (especially Corvettes) that had a 454 engine used a heat shield. Not sure on the trucks, but I would think they did also. Have you checked with the dealer parts man? That would get you started in the right direction. Otherwise, like some else mentioned check with JEGS or Summit. Or if your really handy, fab one up yourself.

Get a piece of sheetmetal and make your own.

I used to have a factory heat shield I think it came off a vette but not sure what year or engine. I know that doesnt help much :) but I recommend an aftermarket heat shield or blanket, they really work
