harmonic dampener install question
I've installed the harmonic dampener back on my 5.3 donor engine, when I removed it I marked the crank and the dampener with the intention of reinstalling it back in the same orientation. However in my hast to get it back on I didn’t check and now the dampener is about 150 degs advance from its original position. Is this a problem? I know that the dampener is not a balancer like on a Gen I small block but I’m not sure that be out this much is a problem.

Re: harmonic dampener install question
You will be just fine on that....there is no balance weight, & no timing mark, on the dampner:chevy: crazyl

Re: harmonic dampener install question
Yep, you can put it on in any orientation. If it mattered, GM would have put a keyway in the crank.

Re: harmonic dampener install question
its not like the externally balanced big blocks where putting the balancer on wrong will shake it to death.
As long as its on tight with a NEW bolt and tightened right, there should be no issue. |
