I am a new member. Also new to this era pick ups. I was wondering if there was a way to put a woodbed in with out taking out the steel floor?

Im pretty sure someone was making a kit to do exactly what you want to do.I believe I saw it on one of the saturday morning hot rod shows.Not sure how much help this is but might give you a place to look. I think this is the company here http://www.bedwoodandparts.com/retroliner.html

Depends what you want in the end. Just to have the wood look? Sure you can get snap together flooring and cut it to fit....it gives a wood look and looks decent, but weathers very poorly.

Imo it would be very hard to get a "useable" wood bed out of the deal, especially since you have the added depth and weight of the wood. I think that getting marine plywood, good quality wood veneer and about 6 coats of clear would get you a removeable wood-look bed, so when you want to actually haul stuff you can take it out and not ruin it, then toss it in for cruising and shows.

my 66 had the wood floor rotted out so I made a new floor subframe and make a 3 piece removeable bed out of TREX, I'll be getting rhino-lined to make damn near impervious bed, which will look good and match my truck.

Welcome to the site and there is a wealth of knowledge on here about the trucks and a lot of great men and women that are willing to share their knowledge to help out a fellow trucker. I seem to recall a bed floor piece that lays in on top of what you have. Why are you trying to keep the steel floor?

I'm not sure it's going to be worth the effort with the current bed. I'm just exploring all my opitions.

A conversion will cost you around $380.00 in parts minus the wood and strips. Unless you find them used in good shape. May be cheaper.

You can also sell your old parts to make some of your money back for the wood.

might give you some ideas. You can do it pretty cheap with some decent plywood. Also seen people do it with the fake-decking material.

Didn't take the time to add up the LMC parts, but Mar-K offers a conversion kit for $501.50. Doesn't include the wood though. :-(

Found this thread by accident, if you are still interested in this I think a Show Deck may be more along the lines of what you are looking for. For the price though I personally would rather do the wood conversion.
