Heater Core - ?
Who is everyone getting a heater core for a 71 with A/C from? I dread this project - but it must be done. Really don't want to do it more than than once. So, who are you all buying from?
Many thanks in advance! |
Re: Heater Core - ?
'72 and no a/c, but I got mine from Wes at Classic Heartbeat here on the forum.
Good product, delivery and fitment. About a 1.5 yrs ago....no problems. I looked around a lot. He was not the cheapest, but his was the best price I found for as near to OEM as I found. Nor was he the most expensive. Hope that helps. I'm sure someone here has replaced your exact specs. |
Re: Heater Core - ?
So many manufactures around. Made who knows where. Before you chance the install check it for leaks by capping one end off and blowing in the other. Some manufactures don't have good quality inspectors. Don't ask me how I learned that lesson. Out of three only one of the new ones didn't leak.

If I am not mistaken you might still be able to get them through the autoparts store.

Mine's a 70 no a/c, got it from NAPA 2 years ago. It is made in China but I have not had any problems with it. IIRC it was around $30-35

Local auto house looks promising as stated by other posters. This is encouraging. Any other inputs? Again, many thanks! |
Re: Heater Core - ?
well I called my local NAPA and they had it.

Re: Heater Core - ?
Advance Auto here for about $50 I think. Installed it and it's leaking. Not sure why, I used the original screws that came out of the old one. A bit of advice. Pressure check with a garden hose before you install the new heater core.

Virtually none of these new cores will fit EXACTLY the same as the original. But some fit better than others. I know I have read at least one case that, because of this, the screws for securing the core with the brackets wound up puncturing the brand new core! They effectively became too long because of poor fitment. This job is way to much of a PIA to get burned by that....so check it out before snuggin 'm up tight. |
Re: Heater Core - ?
Call your local radiator shop. Ask the cost and turnaround time to rehab yours after you pull it.

Re: Heater Core - ?
Thanks for all the inputs. I'm going to place an order with classic parts since the price is not that much different from my local parts house plus I want to get a gasket set for the heater box. I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again for the inputs! |
