Steering wheels?

I want a little more room in my 64 c-10 and am considering putting in a smaller steering wheel.

Anybody ever started a thread for that?

Or, please post a picture or 10 of what you all have done please....

The steering column is from a Cadillac so it has tilt and telescopic. I made the knob in the center of the steering wheel so all I have to do is twist it and the steering wheel will telescope out... Works like a champ!

I love the concept! I have built and maintained military aircraft since 1981, and your interior speaks my language!!

Here's my wheel, an original '66 deluxe wheel that I shrunk to 15 inch.

Did you ever do a little "how to" on that? It looks bone stock and I would love to do that to mine! Great work!

Re: Steering wheels?

I went with a shallow dish 14.5” Covico wheel. I think it’s around 2 3/8” from the mounting hub to the face of the wheel. The aftermarket steering column was shorter than the original, but still too tall for my comfort. I removed the column and cut 1” off the top and sides of the lower bell where it bumped into the dashboard, allowing the column to move down another inch for more driver clearance:

Thanks! I detailed the wheel build in my Goldilocks build thread starting on page 9, there's a link in my signature. I ended up sectioning and re-arching the original rim but a rim swap would have been alot easier!

There was an article in a recent Truck magazine, a how to for reducing the diameter of a stock wheel. If you like I could scan it and forward to you by email. Astronauts work is fantastic, but more info can never hurt:)
PM me if you would like me to scan and send the article.
