Crossmember swap - What spring to use?
I'm swapping in a 1987 Disc brake front end into my 1966 fleetside shortbed. The front end came with everything including power steering and power brakes out of a regular cab long bed. Should I use the 1966 springs or the 1987 springs? I imagine the 1987 truck weighed more. My concern is would the 1987 springs lift the front end higher, but I don't know if the 1966 springs will fit? Both coils has 8 turns. The 1966 wire diameter is .750" whereas the 1987 wire diameter is .760".

Re: Crossmember swap - What spring to use?
I was wondering the same thing. Don't want to change my trucks stance, but also want to do the disc brake swap into my '64.
Is the OD and ID of the coils the same? If so, you could try out both sets. Any major roadblocks during the swap? I'd like to get as prepared as possible before ripping the front end off. thanks. |
Re: Crossmember swap - What spring to use?
I used my 66 6 cylinder front springs, the ones from my donor were a lot taller. It works just fine. Kieth :gmc2:
