Disc brakes

Ok guys I've asked a couple questions on here before with great response but this one may be a little tough. I've looked all over the Internet and this site but I'm coming up with a little conflicting info.

I have a 70 chevy c-10 with four wheel drum brakes, I want to keep it 6 lug and add disc to the front. What is the absolute cheapest easiest way. What parts are needed and what can I still use. Will parts from a 73-78 work?

I have a similar delima. If you change the front, I think the hub diameters on the rear will be bigger then the front.
I have some 6 bolt wheels from a late 90's truck that I'd like to use. But the center hole is 3". The hub on the stock rear end is 3 1/2". Is changing the rear end my only option?

You can have the wheels machined to fit over the rear hubs,Or you can have the hubs machined to fit any of the later wheels.Keep in mind that the offset on later wheels is different so you may not like the way they tuck way under and there is a possibility of the wheels inner lip hitting on the front control arms or the tie rod ends.

Lowlife thank you so much. I read that from start to finish. That answered all my questions and really cleared a lot of things up.

Thanks paneledland.
I'll check the offset. If I have to buy new wheels I may just switch to 5 lug.

Good deal.
Now we need some pics of your truck!

lolife-to make sure I m understanding you correctly... if I get a 1972 crossmember, I can roll it under my 1970 C10 Stepside with only brake line issues to be concerned with? All of the frame holes will align with the cross member bolts? Thanks!

Correct.
But I would never swap the crossmember itself.
No need.
I personally would use the 70 crossmember and associated brake lines.
Just swap all the steering and everything from the a-arms out,... after I rebuilt the front end.

Re: Disc brakes

My wife may be picking me up a 68 4wd C10 this weekend (its her gift to me, and I am on deployment right now)... the problem is I want to lower it, add an 5.3L LS, and make it mean. Can I swap out the 4WD axle and front suspension and bolt a disc brake crossmember from a 71-72, or even a 73 - 87 into the truck easily? From what I am reading here, and a few other places it seems pretty easy... I guess I am just looking for some reassurance...
