10 gauge copper
 

Any one know what 3 seperate 10 gauge copper standed wires together can handle amp wise 180 feet. Would be a total of 9 wires 3 each spliced together.

so your doing a stereo amp with 180ft of 10 gauge wire???

IM to cheap to buy good welding cable for amp wires, so I use good extension cords. I use all 3 strands for the power from battery to amp, and a short section in the rear the same, 3 wire from amp ground to body ground, as a ground should be as big or bigger then the feed and as short as possiable.

oh haha i get what your asking. i just spent like 10 minutes writing up a complete car stereo write up. i thought you meant car amplifier but your talking about amperage. just use a bigger wire. if im reading this correct you have 3 10 gauge wires that your are going to twist together thus making it like a 3 gauge? i dont know jame you need to rephrase your question

so gumby are you using extension cords for your power wires for your car stereo? what set up do you have?

10ga wire is usually good for 30 amps, so 3 would be 90 amps. It really depends on what you're doing though...

I have over 600 feet of good 10 gauge water well pump copper stranded wire. I was thinking rather than buying aluminum 2-2-2 entrance cable, using the copper I already have in conduit. I cant see how this would be any different that using a larger conductor if splicing 9 wires into 3 seperate runs. But wanted to insure it would carry 90A like it should in my mind. Sorry for the radio confusion.

Bad idea. You said "entance wire" so I assume you mean to power something like a garage. Follow the National Electric Code. It was made for a reason. Your was drasticly increases the possibility of carona and ringing. And I am not talking about beer or your door bell.

Agreed after more research it is not pratical. I wanted to use copper if possible over Al. #4 copper is just not economical. IN case anyone wants to know 3 -10s together = 5.5 gauge. Any two wires connected in parrell creates a 3 gauge larger cable. It is not 2xs ratio as I first thought. Just ordered 2-2-2 service feed cable so it will be done correctly.

Just a jumble of crap, my auidophile friends who tune their system daily with an osiloscope always give me crap for my junk science but have no choice to give it a pass as it works well.

Some junk brand 800watt amp, bridged running two 6x9s in a box on one side and a single 12in on the other side. Feed on the clean mono sub out channel of a Pioneer DEH deck. Couple more 6x9s in the rear and two tweeters on the dash for mids and high.

In the past long ago when gas was $1 a gallon I can member sound or noise issues that almoast always were power related, now I over do the power needs and a $9 extension cord made it easy to run power to the back of the station wagon where the amp and boxes are.

But if I listened to my friends, id have $10,000 in equipment and $200 in welding cable for power wire.

Use the correct wire for wiring your structure. Don't be a Darwin award winner!
