Electric windows are VERY slow.
Is there anything cheap that I can do to address the windows going up and down very slowly? They are so bad that I have to assist them sometimes.

Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
Best thing to do is remove door panel and clean the window tracks.. Clean them really really good.. Then spray in some white lithium grease into the tracks....
Keep your fingers clear of the windows after this point. LOL |
Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
x2. Check the plastic wheels on the regulators - they get clogged up with hardened grease over the years, so clean up and re grease. After you clean out all old grease, shoot the tracks with silicone spray and see if it helps. If this does not help, buy new AC Delco window motors from an online OEM seller - about $25 per motor - should get free shipping.

Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
There is a good thread on here somewhere about adding relays to get more power to the motors.

Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
i did this too i greased the tracks and everything my driver side is fine, my passenger is slowww
i heard about adding a relay that may speed em up |
Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
The next question is, is there an easy walk through for removing the door panel so I don't go all Incredible Hulk on it and break something?
|
Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
That "incredible hulk" statement made me laugh, I did that the first time and the door panel broke  check this out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mczSAD3egbw

Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
I too would love to see the thread on how to add another relay. That would be really good info for all of us with slow power windows. I have actually thought about going to crankers because of it.

Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
Power drill and manual crank windows goes up fast.
But the relays and cleaning help ALOT Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
try some silicone spray.

Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
Yeah I WD-40's up my driver's side and its quicker now. But new regulators and motors are usually what's needed to speed 'em back up to factory spec.
I've got this weird idea brewing in my brain. It involves finding motors that will fit and work with the regulators in these trucks, but that run much faster. And then attaching a relay in-line somewhere that makes the window switches automatic up and down. On both the driver and passenger sides. That'd be cool...... |
Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
I forgot to ask, what is the best thing to use to clean the tracks and regulator wheel with?

But, I found once I replaced the motors in my square, they ran just as fast as the windows in my '02 Blazer, which are still pretty fast. |
Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
Well maybe I just need to do the relay itself then, and not faster motors.
But then I can't roll somebody's head up in there and drive off like in the movies. lol |
Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
Here's how I did my 77 truck and my Camaro Z2/8 as well.

Whats the advantage of doing it that way over just the stock setup? I'm probably just blind and can't see the difference. |
Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
More voltage --which means faster they go up/down
|
Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
Great thread,Thank you to all those who posted...., keep them coming : )

That's AWSOME, I saved the diagram .i might give this a try

Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
Yea, voltage helps!!
I run a 145 amp alternator in my truck. Lube all the parts!! |
Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
Subscribing to this one...have power regulators and wire harness ready to go..probably use this diagram...108amp alternator good enough? Taurus electric fan sucks up some juice.

Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
I did the relay mod on my 82 when I did the resto. The power goes around the world before it gets to the motor. When I check the voltage it was about 8 to 9 volts to the motor, After the relay I had about 11 volts at the motor with the engine not running. Made a huge diffrence. I also did some clean up and lube on all the tracks. It would be a good idea to check all working parts to be sure you dont have another issue. The diagram above is how I did mine with the excption of the running of a ground wire to the chassis and motor case. I does not need this wire. The motor gets it ground from one of the two wires from the motor connector. The motor wires reverse polarity on the connector to make the motor run the other way. This is a great way to improve the speed of the window. motors alone may help sum but will not cure the problem alone. My windows are as fast as my 06 chevy with out any hesitation. It was worth the time and trouble. The windows are one of the first things my friends show off on my truck being there history of being slow.
Skunksmash, The advantage is that you take the load off of the factory wiring and the relays bring power directly from the battery to the motors. |
Re: Electric windows are VERY slow.
Change out the window regulator I changed my out not for that reason (broke) now the window rolls up & down fast.
