The “club” is worthless. It looks cool, but a few seconds with a hacksaw to your steering wheel and the club comes off. Was a neat gimmick in the 90s but in reality their garbage.
The collar for your steering column helps a lot. It doesn’t take much force with a 2lb hammer to blow one of our columns to pieces and it starts very easily with a screwdriver afterwards.
You can do whatever tricks you want, but in reality if someone wants your vehicle (notice I say vehicle because it really doesn’t matter what make or model) bad enough they will just have it towed.
But for the normal everyday things, an ignition kill switch is really good. Can’t start it, can’t take it—but usually pisses the thief off and they will cause damage to your interior.
A car alarm with starter kill is a good idea as well, but have the installer mount the “brain” somewhere else than on top of your steering column. Because if you grab the “brain” and pull it out ripping off/out all the wires, the alarm is dead and your truck is unprotected.
Separate starter button to turn motor over. a buddy has his high beam switch as the starter. Works great also.
Lastly, make sure you pay the extra 15 dollars a month on your insurance for theft, it is worth it. You don’t have to have “full coverage” to get protected against theft or break ins..

The club! LOL

I remember all that stuff in the 90's about how easy it was to saw though. They were always showing someone sawing through one on TV.

Till they steal the truck AND your gun lol

J/K

But that did happen to a buddy of mine. He had is mossberg shotgun in there and on the back it said "security by mossberg" and I never could help thinking if they stole the truck to get the gun as an added bonus.

I have a switch for my fuel pump and one for my ignition and I put both t-cases in neutral. Of course this all would not stand up to a repo truck or a wrecker.. Thieves should be exterminated with extreme prejudice!

The club I have is NOT garbage. It has 4 claws so that if you try to saw through the wheel it will not come off.

I hear ckeaning your gun on the front porch is a good deterent lol
having your friends all show up with theirs too
leaving your range targets in the recycle bin....

other then that put a switch on the coil not the starter....
chances are the dummy will flood the truck, before it starts
and your prob gona hear that happen....
he won't hear a thing...

Re: Security

"Back in the day" there was a company called "The Defender". They made a steel column replacement bowl that basically replaced the piece on your column where thieves always broke to start your GM vehicle. The later ones even had an additional lock on them that would prevent the column from unlocking so even if they did chisel past the metal collar they still could not turn the wheel. Of course those are long gone and I could not find squat on them online.

My favorite trick was to put a relay on the ignition wire and have it go through my cigarette lighter in the ashtray. If the lighter was not pushed in my vehicle would not start. For added security I had an additional lighter with a rubber plug in it instead of the metal heating coil, so even if it was pushed in it would not make contact and complete the circuit. When I'd park at the mall or someplace I'd put the dummy lighter in the ashtray and put the real one in my pocket. Was a cheap and easy way to make it a lot harder for a thief to start. You want to keep any bypass you install simple, don't over think it and make a 14 step process to start your truck.

The "Club" is always garbage. It takes roughly 90 seconds to remove the supposed 'good' one.

Re: Security

Locks only keep honest people honest.

For me it's starter kill, manual glow plugs, and a battery shut off for long times in one place.
Oh and good insurance.

I had an extra "Defender" sitting in my garage. Threw it up on ebay and darn near had to beg someone to buy it for $10.00.

Re: Security

Magnetic killswitches are real good to. Wire them into the signal wire for the distributor module. When you take a magnet on your keychain to where the switch is located behind the dash or wherever it closes the circuitry and the truck can start

They stopped makin clubs in the 90s. They are more of a neat thing to talk about around a camp fire. But I will apologize for saying your device is garbage. That was immature of me.

I use 2 kill switches that are hidden and use keys to activate, one to kill ignition (or starter system, either one works) and one to kill the fuel pump.

Even if they find one, it still won't start without the other.

Some other things I've done when taking a car to a weekend long event that is several hundred miles from home and requires sleeping overnight, I simply remove the battery and take it into the motel with me. I've even chained the hood shut with a lock.
If it's a computer controlled car, you can simply remove relays that control ignition or fuel and stick them in your pocket, only takes a minute to do.

I also never park the truck or car where I can't keep an eye on it. If I know I'm going somewhere that parking might be an issue and I can't keep an eye on the vehicle, I drive a beater that I don't care about.

Basically short of hooking it up to a tow truck and pulling it away, any thief is going to have a hard time taking something I own. Basically all you need is something that will slow them down. Most thieves are looking for very easy targets with little resistance, and don't want to attract attention to themselves. Deterents such as these will shy a thief away after a few minutes of fiddling around, chances are good they'll move on to the next victim.

Lastly I always carry a Glock ;) As most people carry around this state, you would be tempting fate to mess with someones property it would seem.

Re: Security

yup, 2 kill switches are the way to go. besides the coil, i put one on the clutch interlock. funny as heck watching the wife try to start it after i installed it (did'nt tell her). also park the trucks 2 feet away from my fence, 186lb mastiff, 125lb rotty, & a killer 12lb chiuwawa(?)-boot wipe, (wife's dog), live on the other side of fence. and parked under motion lights. have to, cause of our gun laws it takes 10 mins to load. get key, unlock ammo from one safe(cant be stored together), get another key, unlock rifle from another safe, get another key, unlock trigger lock, put bullets in clip, NOW, lock & load as your pride & joy rolls down the street!

Wow, those are some pretty extreme gun laws ya got there. I couldn't imagine trying to do all that in the middle of the night fumbling around half asleep. So much for self defence, I may as well just put my hands up and surrender

thats nothing, thats just rifles, try getting a handgun permit, they act like your applying for a pocket size nuke to carry around. i guess our politicians know whats best for us (sigh,... bang head). cops would most likely charge you too if some low life stepped in front of one of your bullets. supposed to not confront & call 911-right, plan "B", alum. bats scattered around the house!

Arizona, the state of shootin stuff ;)

Actually there have been cases of theft and break ins reported where owners have used guns with force as well as protection with no charges filed. We are one of the few states in the country with very laxed gun laws. Much like Nevada, Texas, Tennessee and probably a few others.

Most people conceal carry here. But I guess aluminum bats might work in a pinch too
