new motor
 

Since I need to build a new motor and I have a 4 bolt main 350 block what is the consensus for the size I should build and why !!! It is going in a 91 chevy silverado(reg. cab)that is going to be lowered and attaches to a 700r4 tranny with a posi 3.42 gear rear. Well fellas--What do you think !!!!

Well this is a broad question. What are your real intentions for the truck. a DD, a toy a dd with some towing ability? For a DD I would probably go with a mild built 350. for efficiency and dependability.dd with nice towing ability, a mild cammed 350 or even 383 for the torque added for making towing easier. toy, stroked cammed up 383 because they have plenty torque for smokin the tires.

Torque is king in any truck so if you already have all the parts a 350 would make good sense.
That said if your crank needs grinding go 383 and never look back.You can get a new crank for pennies more than grinding your original crank and You can feel the difference very easily in the seat of your pants.
I have a 90 GMC K1500 and put a 400 smallblock in it out of a station wagon while my engine was at the machine shop being rebuilt.
The old 98,000 mile 400 was a much better motor than my brand new 350.
If you are running the factory TBI you can't put much of a cam in your 350 at all so cubic inches are your best most reliable friend.
