inner changeablity of parts on a 235 head
I have a 1956 head out of a 235 engine and the head numbers are 3836848.
I have a spare head out of a 1955 235 engine with the casting numbers 3701887. I would like to know if the rocker shaft assembly can be from the 3701887 head be used on the 3836848 head. I will purchase new springs and valves if necessary. The only difference is on the 848 the rocker shaft oil connector assembly on the 848 the oil pipe as it curves at the top it is pinched off with a spray hole there and on the 887 the oil tube roll all the way to the bottom of the head. Everything thing else looks the same I just want to do I temporary motor while I am rebuilding one. I thought it would be a good idea to make 2 motor into one and focus my $$$$$ on my rebuild and not the spare. I have another 3836848 head that I am rebuilding along with a complete motor also. |
Re: inner changeablity of parts on a 235 head
The 3701887 head is off a 53 235. The rockers may be different, thinner on the top of the arm. 55 up they changed to a thicker arm and then again in 59.
The pinched off oil tube is an attempted fix for a low oil flow condition to the arms which was problematic for the 235 series engines. 60 and up had no outlet tube and was just from head to rocker. |
