366?

Ok I know the 366 BBC was used in dump trucks and school busses but is there anything that it can be built for in a street vehicle

Re: 366?

you really would not want it in anything for the street. It probably cost a ton more to build than a 454 or similar and the tdmotors just are not in the conversation when talking about performance. Now torque that they have in spades and I know we have a man here that has one in a wrecker and likes it but for the most part it is not gonna make most people happy. Like I said get you a 396 or better yet a 454 and build away.

Re: 366?

It seems everywhere you look people often diss these tall decks.
I've had a couple (got for free)and I allways dismantled them for the steel crank and other bb tidbits.
allways made $ out of them;)

although,
I allways wandered why most people that build a truck or rigg for towing simplely just wont even think about one of these engines.
often they have less mileage than a standard deck bbc and can be had for alot less $.
If you drop on in with all the oe stuff (of course cleaning them up helps)on it and just runn it you'll be into for hundreds less than any other bb.
sure they are not for hi per applications but for a regular, puller, dumper or hauler why not?

Re: 366?

I know of three uses for a 366. They all have a steel crank that can be used in 396 - 427. They all have good 454 "thumb" rods. The main caps can be put on a 2 bolt block and align bored to give 4 bolt mains on the cheap. Oh, they also have a nice, 8 or 9 quart pan. I guess that's four uses. Anyone know of another use? Roy

You can use the TD engines for stroker motors, just like GM did to build the 572. You can get more CI out of a TD block then a reg block. And to top it off the TD blocks are dirt cheap because no one builds them. I would like to find a TD 427 to put in my K5.

Re: 366?

The bore on the 366 is too small for it to breathe well and make big hp. I would not spend the $ to rebuild on but if it was running and cheap i might take it. It would be good for the donorparts mentioned above. Tall deck 427's make good pulling motors ( I guess thars why theyre in big heavy trucks!) but the heavy pistons limit safe rpm potential.
