I just put 18" 338's on my 74'. I have the light duty rotors so they bolt right up but the center cap won't seat all the way due to the dust cap. What are you guys doing about this? Running a small spacer or what?

Does your center cap have plastic clips,... or an o-ring to hold it on?

I just trimmed them down a little like this picture shows.
(from the giant Boss 338 wheel thread).

I used my 90 grinder with a flap disc in it.
I also put a small amount of silicone adhesive on the inside of the cap clips,... just in case.

So it is the clips contacting? Not the center of the dust cap? Good to know. Thank u sir

I bought a set of 20" Boss 338's recently. My front one's would not fit flush against the rotors. I ended up ujsing my 4.5" grinder and a flap wheel and ground on the snout of the rotor behind where the dust cap is. All is well now and the ceter cap fits fine. I tried spacers at first but just did not feel comfortable running them.

I will have to take the wheels off and snap some photos. I can tell you that there is a hard edge on the snout of the rotor right behind where the dust cap sets. I basically worked that over till the wheel would fit flush. I did a little at a time and checked them constantly. Gotta be careful and not get into it too much or you will ruin the rotor.

I ran them on the 71 I built 2 years ago. I ran the bigger 1.25 rotor. I had to grind on the rotor hub and flattened the cap. I also had to ground down the center cap. I ended up using a little clear silicon to make sure the cap didn't come off. they are a PITA to run but they sure look good and at the time they were fairly inexpensive.

I think I found a alliterative to the boss fitment issue. I bought a set of Ridler wheels. I bought them for my 86, I have not mounted them yet but according to my measurements they should mount up without and modifications. I have them in storage waiting on the next project, so this is the only photo I have of them. they are very similar to the 338. Im sure somebody on here has a pair mounted.

My center caps have an o-ring instead of the mounting tabs so once I got the wheels to sit flush the caps popped right on.

So are you guys saying that if the center cap does not fit on that the wheel isn't actually on all the way? Concerned because my 78 blazer has those wheels on it without front caps. That's how it was from the PO

No, not necessarily. They had an issue with the older style center caps hitting the dust cover on the rotor. The wheel I bought have the newer style center cap with the o-ring. My problem was that my rotors where too thick right behind the dust cap for the wheel to seat fully.

This issue has been going on since these wheels were introduced in 2009.

Modified my center caps just like yours lolife99. Worked like a charm! It might take a little extra effort to get these on but it is worth it. I love them.

I don't regret getting mine for one minute. I looked at the Riddler wheels but they were more money. I bought my set brand new for $750.00. 20"x8.5" front and 20"x 10" rear.
