IT's TIME! Agent Orange under the knife... Merry Xmas

Well it's finally about that time to get this project on the road. I have been researching, collecting parts and what not for the past year. This site has been invaluable to a lot of the research that I did. So, with no further a do, here we go.

Truck is a 1970 that I have had for ruffly 6 years now. Since I have had it, just did minor stuff to it to get it running and look decent. Most wast just simple cosmetic stuff. the paint is not perfect, if fact it was painted by a student as a project. It's a 10-15 footer. Interior wise, i put new carpet, 2001 Silverado power seats and a little Chrome. It has a little massaged 350 with 350 turbo in it now. Thats about all that has been done to date.

The ultimate goal is a Pro-Touring build, but time and $$ will dictate how fast and much I do. Hopefully I will get close. Keep in mine, this will be a driver and not a show car. I plan on driving it hard with another goal of taking it on the 2013 Power Tour.

Well, here we go...

As she sits now:

It should be a small hand full :metal: I modeled the engine build after a couple of magazine builds, with of course some of my own mods and appearance goodies. Should make somewhere in the range of 500-550hp engine. So 400-440hp RWHP. We will see. Once up and running, I will take it to the dyno to see.

Thanks for the reply's everyone. I am totally excited about this.

As promised, here are a couple of better pictures of the engine right now:

LSX sitting and waiting...

And next, DECONSTRUCTION and mock up starts:

old 350 out
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...pseac775bc.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...pseb97009d.jpg

Started to clean the frame with wire wheel:
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...ps3b0e3bce.jpg

and then talked myself into just powered coating the frame. So, that is what I am going to do now. I might as well, everything is pretty much off and going to be replaced anyways, so it would be a waste to put on this new gear on a rusty looking frame.

So for now finished back suspension, fabed a bracket underneath bed for airpod and mocked up boyds fuel tank.

rear air bag on early classic trailing arm and c-notch:

airpod and bracket:
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...ps7ea133c4.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...psc86f2382.jpg

porterbuild cross braces (excellent product!):

interior semi gutted:

and my left overs, which are for sale if anyone wants:

steering column

inner fenders

radiator, shroud, a arms upper and lower & fuel tank

Re: IT's TIME! Agent Orange under the knife... Merry Xmas

Cab and Bed seperated:

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...psb294e50c.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...ps7fb5f225.jpg

Frame done with mock up and now off to powered coat:
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...ps81ac7f6d.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...ps4c249f5d.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...ps127ac6ce.jpg

Now just need to fill all the holes in the cab, smooth the firewall and start planing where to run and hide all the wires and harnesses.

Question.. the frame support bar behind the shock bar. One side is over the frame rail and the other side its under the frame rail.

Do they mount that way? I dont know.. Im asking. Im about to do the same on my truck.

The dash panel is from Doc's Kustoms. Great people. I modified one of their panels to get the look I wanted. Still undecided but might wrinkle paint the dash panel to mimic the original dash look

No, they do not mount this way. I was simply mocking it up. It goes in between the frame rails. It's a tight fit and didn't want to bang it in and then have to bang it out.

If you are talking about the door panels, I had gotten these from someone local that was selling them from his truck. I don't know if these are stock.

effects66 12-25-2012 04:42 PM

Re: IT's TIME! Agent Orange under the knife... Merry Xmas

Correction on the door panels, they are original look. You can get them from LMCtruck.

NewType72 12-26-2012 02:38 AM

Re: IT's TIME! Agent Orange under the knife... Merry Xmas

Really? I've just never seen them like that must be special for LMC the wood insert usually encases the handles in it and the arm rest would be the longer squatty one instead of the 67-71 style for the metal door panels. I'm Learning something new everyday
