Difference in grilles?

I ordered a phantom grille for my truck (93 Silverado), they where running a good sale, paid $99 for the one that goes over the head lights and foglights, anyway I didnt see until now that they make two different styles???? I knew they chagned in 95, but apparently gm changed the grilles from 88-93 and 94-98? Anyone help me? Apparently the one I got was for 94-98 but I thought they where all the same!

The question now is, can you use the later-style grille insert with the early grille shell?

Might work...I'd try to exchange it for the correct one first, but if they won't do it, you might be able to make it fit.

So you could return the insert and get the right one, or make the swap to the newer style grille shell.

Not too hard if you can find a good 94-98 grille in a junkyard. You'd need the grille shell and the filler piece that goes between the grille and the bumper, which would have to be painted unless you happen to find one that's the right color. There are a crap-ton of threads about this swap.

I just googled "88-93 phantom grille" and "94-98 phantom grille." I bet Stylin Trucks carries both.

You'll need all 3 filler pieces: the main center piece plus the 2 small end pieces. You'll also need the 2 inner bumper mounts. The filler panels for the new grille require the bumper to be moved out slightly, otherwise they won't fit. New sidemarker lenses will be needed too and new parking lamps would be a good idea as the early parking lamps won't quite fit without a little work and will look funky.
