I'm with you on that. Those look like they belong on a late 30's limousine.

But in the early 50's you could bet that more than one guy grabbed a set of those big 16 inch wide whites that were made for big luxury vehicles out of the 30's and stuck them on their trucks. I can remember my dad's cronies saying that they had tires of a "Cadillac" on their truck when I was a kid. They may have been used tires off a Cadillac but the concept impressed me.

You know, the guys at the shop were mocking up my truck to get the stance dialed in before building the suspension, and all they had around the shop for tires was this set of wide whites. (not as wide as that ebay truck though!!!) I had never really considered whitewalls before, but honestly, this kind of has me thinking about it!

When anything like that is used it draws your eye from how nice the rest of the truck is!

Good point, you see the wide whites and then you see the truck around them instead of seeing one complete truck.

The onlooker should think "WOW nice truck" then dissect what he/she sees piece by piece rather than saying "Whoo look at those whitewalls" and then looking to see what they are on. That should go for any component you put on your truck. Think of the last time you saw a truck with a wild flame job at a show. You still remember every detail of the flames but probably can't remember much about the rest of the truck without stopping to think about it for a minute.

The super widewhites work with over restored trucks with every extra piece of factory chrome and stainless plus a sunvisor on them and maybe a two tone paint job where there is enough extra stuff to draw your attention that they don't dominate the truck.

Speaking of wide whites, does anyone remember which thread the tire shop in Oregon that does the wide whitewall grinding was in? or the link to the shop. I thought I had it saved and can't find the thread or the link.

Benavidas Tire in Woodburn. I had the Apache tires done $20 ea. And he would rather have them mounted on rims. Takes a few days unless you schedule ahead of time. Mabey drop them off in the A.M., check out the McMinville Air Museumand then pick them up?
