1957 leaf spring removal
Hi
I am about to remove and rebiuld the leaf springs on my stock 1957 truck. All seems simple enough, but before I start, I am a little confused on how to remove the rear leaf springs from the front shackles. I see there is a locking nut, but how does the pin pull out? Any other suggestions and advise before I start? Thanks Gary |
Re: 1957 leaf spring removal
The pin screws out from the other side. The pin is a lot more like a specially designed bolt than just a pin that you would press into place. That gets just about every one of us the first time we work on the springs.

Re: 1957 leaf spring removal
I happen to have a picture in my inventory, It will give a good idea of what's in there.

Re: 1957 leaf spring removal
Wow, I learned something here. I'd have probably beenthe idiot out there pounding the crap outta that "pin" cursing why it wouldn't come out and ruining it.
Gary, When you say "rebuild" you mean cleanup & paint, replace the bushings? Or will you be removing leaves, putting Teflon between them, or having them re-arched, anything else? |
