Valve Seal Replacement Questions
I am changing the valve seals on an '83 c10 305.
1. When I install the new intake seal is it supposed to lock or snap into place on the head? Everyone I have replaced moves up and down with the valve. The exhaust seals have the metal clamps that keep it tight, but what about the intake? 2. What is the function of the O-ring? I can’t tell if it is staying in place when re-installing the spring. I know it has moved on a couple of valves, just not sure if the travel of the valve will push it back into place? 3. On one intake valve the inner spring had .5in piece that had broken off and was bouncing around inside the spring. On this valve there was no seal or O-ring, I’m assuming from the piece of metal bouncing around in there. The seat for the seal was a little chewed up but the seal went on like all the others. Should this worry me? I also reused the old spring. |
Re: Valve Seal Replacement Questions
You can use the style with the metal clamps(Positive lock style) on both intake and exhaust the other style you are using on the intake are the umbrella style and yes they are free to move up and down the valve. Also if i was you i would check all the valve springs since its apart to make sure they have the right seat pressure you may need to shim or replace the springs considering one was some what broke

Re: Valve Seal Replacement Questions
the umbrella seals yes move. the posi-stops are a bit more secure, but keep the valve stem "dry" from oil.
keep the stock stuff, push them on and roll on.. |
