Ticking at stop in D

Truck started doing this about a week ago, only does it sometimes. It does it when its in gear at a stop, otherwise driving around its not there. And only does it sometimes (not at every stop) I can hear it super loud under the truck, but when I pop the hood its hard to hear. Ive added a youtube link of the truck ticking at a stop light. Any ideas?? A bad wrist pin? loose bolt? Bad bearing?

Is it an automatic? Sounds like you may have a cracked flexplate.

Yes, its an auto. TH400. It was rebuilt last year. When I crawl under, it sounds like its coming from the oil pan. The truck runs and drive fine, no problems. I guess Ill have to pull the conveter cover off and take a look around

Sorry, you did say "when in D". Duh, I gotta start paying more attention. They usually crack around the bolts holes at the crank flange. You may be able to take the converter bolts out, slide the converter back and see it but I'm not sure. I hope I don't send you off on a wild goose chase. It was my first thought when I heard it.

Well its not to hard to check, only 6 bolts for the cover and 3 for the converter. I dont want to drive it until whatever it is breaks. haha

Also, when the shop rebuilt the transmission, they put a RV shift kit in it, so it does change gears pretty hard and when you put it into R it "bangs" into gear. So I wouldnt rule that out.

So I checked the flex plate, thought I saw a crack. Thought to myself maybe its grease so I run my finger on it and it has a ridge. Its a crack.. I added a pic of where the crack is. Its dark so I cant see if there is anymore.. but yeah... sucks.. haha

replace your u-joints. puttin the truck in D or R shouldnt be any bang. change your ujoints when you take the trans out to replace the flexplate..

Sweet! Thanks for the follow up. It sucks when you help someone with a problem and they don't report back with their findings. Im glad it didn't take to much to chase down your problem. It stinks that you gotta pull the trans though. Update us when you get it out and like bk2life said, replace those joints. :)

I checked the U joints by trying to spint the drive shaft back and forth and there wasnt any play. But Ill take a better look when I remove the transmission. I wont tackle this one until next week, but I will post follow up pics! Thanks guys!

check your u-joints with the vechile on a lift or on jack stands. that will let you know if your joints are bad. with it on the ground it still has a strain on the drive line and it's hard to tell that way.unless the joints are really bad then you can tell while on the ground. but better to check them while on a lift or on jack stands. just my 02 worth.

Just saw this thread, I see you located the problem, all I can add is you can use a peice of hose like a stethascope to isolate noises, it's worked for me many times.
