Front license plates...
So who is NOT running a front license plate, vanity tag, vintage tag or whatever on the front of their '60-'66 truck because of the stupid way GM set it up?
There's just something retarded looking about bolting the bottom of the tag to the top of the bumper. Am I right in that thinking? Would anyone run a front tag if it mounted neatly in the middle of the bumper? I've got a '61 Dealer tag on the front of our '61 Corvair, and I'd like to run a '61 tag on the front of the Suburban, but it just looks stupid. -Brad |
Re: Front license plates...
I thought it looked stupid too, so I fabricated a heavy steel plate bolted to the original holes, and then lowered the license plate several inches and drilled new holes through both the plate and the bumper. It lowers the plate a decent amount and also provides structural support so it can't get bent very easily. I could have gone lower, but it would have required spacers because the attachment would have been below the peak of the bumper:

Re: Front license plates...
I made up this prototype a couple years ago. I just have not found the time to put them into production yet.

Re: Front license plates...
From a GM standpoint when these trucks were new, it certainly would have been easy enough to just include a cheap tin bracket similar to the one in the picture below. This would have lowered the plate a bunch and cost next to nothing.

Re: Front license plates...
Here in Texas it is illegal to run without the front plate, I know unfortunately.

Re: Front license plates...
We have to have a front plate in Iowa, I get a lot of people saying to me-your front bumper is upside down, isn't it? I can't believe they designed it to look so STUPID!!!

Re: Front license plates...
Here in WI it's a law that you need front plates but evidently they don't enforce it because I run seven vehicles without them, hate front plates, the key is to not run USA-1 plates or anything else, no plate at all. My wife has a 2010 Impala, I took the front bracket off and filled the holes as soon as it came home from the dealer. My 65 pickup has run without anything for18 years. My 56 Chevy hardtop has run without for 10 years. All three of these vehicles and my Astro van travel surrounding states with no trouble yet.

Ohio requires 2 plate if daily driver normal plates
also want both plates if Historical plates only require rear plate if model year I run historical or model year, but never fronts. I'll risk a citation..;) Hate front plates on these trucks |
