68 chevy paint combo...rare? Or B.S.?
I was looking on e-bay and came across this truck. (Dirt cheap if anyone is interested) Click here to see the auction.
Anyways, the seller who does not own the truck says the paint is original. Look at the light blue on the grill with the rest of the truck being dark blue. Has anyone seen this before? http://ebay1.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_...7b/i-1_B_L.JPG If you look in the glove box, the inside of the door is dark blue, and the option sticker is still there, so the dark blue is probably original as stated. http://ebay1.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_...7b/i-5_B_L.JPG Any one know anything about this? |
Is that a paint line on the left fender there? and it looks like white paint near the bottem fender and rocker panel area.
I don't know anything about the truck... just noticed those things in the pic. |
Around the door on the cab it looks like there was blue there at one point, kinda the same color as the grille

Chances are its nothing but a fraud. The whole description is BS. "solid bed floor" yet they have a rake or something stuck into a rust hole in the bed. But hey it does say it has "original rust" on it, that has to be worth something right?;)

As for the post I'd say it looks fishy but I posted awhile back about a 67 dually I saw and it had a weird paint scheme on the cab Dark Blue with just the top of the cab in Black (window Pillars in Blue like body tho) not sure if that would be original or an op?

That looks like a partial rattle can paint job. The grill area below the front chome piece should be white.

Just a thought,,,,,, how were are trucks painted on the assembly line ?????? I'm thinking they painted each body part seperate and then put the truck together. That would mean that each part was painted with a different batch of paint. (maybe)
That might explain some of the difference in colors due to oxidation. Again,,,,,, just a thought !!!!! |
My 71 chevy has the original paint on everywhere but the hood.
AND, the interiot is a darker shade than the ouside body color.??? Dont know , but i've scraped and grinded the paint both inside and outside and the original paint colors dont match!!! |
I'd say BS. I agree with toms68cst. The grill has been rattle canned. Grill should be either white or silver for a '68.

longhornmail,
I beleive that the grill was originally off white. There is what looks like a small bit of the original white paint showing through the blue paint just between the drivers side headlight bucket and the upper grill surround trim. That faded blue arround the window frames on the doors and the cab pillars seems that it was applied over the original white also. The krylon upgrade probably came along about the same time as the steering wheel and seat cover along with the door pulls. Looks as if it had some quickrestoration/modification done on a budget quite some time back. The white along the inside of the drivers fenderwell is also another sign of the original paint scheme. Have fun |
Cool, I guess I didn't look at it close enough.
Thanks. |
that should be white on the grille as others have pointed out.the different color is most likely attributed to the spraying over the factory white, but it came out a different shade due to the underlying white.my .02 worth.
