changing to posi

So, I'm getting really tire of my one wheel peel issue in my truck. I'm not running big HP numbers and I don't abuse my truck. Rarely break the tires free, but it would be nice to have both wheels kicking. will my stock ring/pinion gears work on a stock Gov-bomb set up? better yet, will they work on an aftermarket posi rearend?

I have 600,000 miles on my truck and it gets alot of 4x4 time on it.It came with posi and at 68,000 miles it broke right where the axle slides into the carrier.Apparentally the axles are plenty thick and the bearing is as well so they took metal out of the carrier and they break right there at the thinnest spot.
I went with a Eaton one time and a Auburn gear the next time.
Posi sounds nice but in reality it isn't both wheels locked up like most people think it is and they don't last very long.On average both wheels will grab for about 6 months of everyday driving then your one legging it again.
If you want both wheels spinning it is either an Air Locker or a spool.

I am putting on my flame retardent suit now as the guys running posi will now try and convince me both wheels are always locked and there must be something wrong with how mine was set up.

Haha haters gonna hate. Maybe I was misleading, in my mind I'm thinking limited slip, as in only one wheel is kicking until it breaks free then they both engage. I had an Eaton in a previous truck, which is now my brothers. It had 120k on the original limited slip gov-bomb. so I'm not concerned with longevity just wanted to know if the ring gears are the same as far as size/bolt pattern.

Not a hater at all just the facts. The difference between a one legger limited slip and posi is 6 months use.I have had them all and I currently have the Auburn gear. After 6 months time the clutch pack WILL loosen up no matter what anyone else will try and tell you.

Your ring an pinion gears bolt right on to your new carrier no matter which one you pick.

edit:A limited-slip differential (LSD) is a type of automotive differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in angular velocity of the output shafts, but imposes a mechanical bound on the disparity.

In an automobile, such limited-slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity. A slang term for a limited-slip differential is Posi, named after GM's "Posi-Traction" unit which was built by Eaton

Why not add a locker? They have street models out now that don't make nearly the racket that the earlier ones did, plus you can add it to your existing open diff without all the trouble of resetting backlash, etc.

I took my 91 SWB to a posi unit and it was worth the effort. That single wheel spin crap was not my cup of tea. I used an Eaton posi unit in that truck, due to my successes with Eaton posi rear ends in my other trucks. I like both wheels working and to me it was worht the money to change.

wasn't refering to you, my "hater" remark was more aimed at those who will attack you for explaining what a posi is, and how it works. No name calling in your direction, what so ever. But those willing to attack someone via internet for voicing their opinion, and having supporting evidence, deserve name calling.

and did your standard diff ring gear bolt up to your posi?

No worries as this forum is very tame.
Your ring and pinion gears will bolt up to any of the choices listed.
If you have a Pick-N-Pull wrecking yard near your house you can get a factory rear-end with posi really cheap plus you have alot of choices on which gears you get.
