LMC tachometer

Has anyone done the LMC swap to include the wire harness they sell? Is it simply a matter of swapping this in and then adding the smaller fuel gauge in the cluster to the left? I have dual tanks also and arent sure if that effects anything

Anyone?

Re: LMC tachometer

That lmc tach seems to be a replacement tach for a tach cluster. Regular clusters housings are not the same.

Re: LMC tachometer

you would need the back overlay for it to work with gas gauge

Re: LMC tachometer

I could of sworn I read installing a tach was as easy as finding one and using the smaller fuel gauge.
Im sure SOMEONE can verify, with some pics hopefully.

and we're talking about the "circuit board" correct?
Why did they make it so hard with these trucks? My Novas are easy to add this stuff.

As far as I could tell when I was rigging up my tach cluster the printed circuits on the back are all the same all you have to do is relocate the metal tabs that the gauges slide into (if you moved the fuel gauge to the bottom left). I had to modify my plastic cluster housing for a tach as the bottom is larger with the combo tach/fuel gauge. It's very easy to do though.....
There is a little plastic piece that goes into the housing that the tach mounts to i unfortunately don't have pics of it.

I wanted my cake and eat it too lol I found a tach fuel gauge combo and a clock!

I "FRANKENSTIENED" mine to include an air pressure gauge in the lower left corner.

My 76 truck did not come with a tach cluster so I purchased a complete cluster and compared the non tach vs tach extensively with a diagram before I installed it and harness was same but overlay was diff......They changed in 77 or 78 and up to diff harness so it has to be repinned at harness.

search threads about adding tach etc, surely this was discussed before.

I think this one is plug n play, well, after running the tach wire: http://www.gmsportssalvage.com/?q=node/1530

At least that one reads above 5,000 and makes it usefull.

I could be mistaken but the fonts look as though they would only match later years.

I think you can get either font.

Very interesting! I thought about the LMC tach and moving the fuelgauge to the clock location since it doesnīt work anyway! Only drawback is that the little gauges are hard to read for tall persons because the donīt angle upwards!

I dont see how the printed circuits are all the same when they sell so many different versions. They make look the same to the untrained eye but if you follow the start and end of the embedded copper trace they go to diff locations.

heres a non tach cluster first and tach cluster last two pics for comparison

Re: LMC tachometer

The printed circuit on the tach vs non tach aren't the same, in addition, the actual housing isn't guaranteed the same either.

I bought the LMC Tachometer and wiring harness and of course it didn't come with a wiring diagram. After thinking of it a couple of days I got my multimeter, 12v power supply, spare distributor, and wired up tach to test my theory that the threaded terminals that would plug into the fuel sending unit are probably not needed and they aren't, the tach moved with power, ground and the signal from the dist.

A solution to some setups w/o oe tachometer?

81 Chevy C10 w/o tach, check out the pictures for install. Only +, Neg-, and (S)ignal are needed for this tach to work, cut the factory threaded terminal screws!
