If you've never had one apart, they are a P I T A! If its just leaking, I got the seals at the local parts supply. If it needs rebuilt, I'd get another IMO. :)

NAPA has the kit. But it's kind of expensive, and may not be worth it once you put all the labor into it.

With the hassle factor, proper part availability, cost, and safety in mind I feel it's just cheaper to get a new re manufactured unit. I swapped in a new steering box in less than a couple hours and was done.

I went with a later box(fewer turns lock to lock) with PS from a wrecking yard for less than a new box would have cost.It works great and was an easy install.Other than mounting the brackets and putting on the hoses,it was as easy as replacing the manual box.

I'm changing my manual to power in the next couple weeks, hopefully. If you want my old one, you can have it. The core charge was only $3.22. I'd eat that up in gas, considering the junkyard is more than 9 miles away. The price of shipping might eat you up, though. Let me know if you're interested. No guarantee as to when I'll get it out. Life has a tendency to get in it's own way.

It seems fine to me. However, I am no authority. This is the first truck I've ever owned. I can say that I've never thought "Wow, this thing is all over the place". I'll be driving it to work in the morning (5 hours from now, what the heck am I still doing up?), and I'll pay closer attention and give you a little better report.
