where to buy some gears at in okc?

Well here in another 2 weeks I'm gunna be buying some gears for my truck! I was wondering if any of you Oklahoma boys would know where I should go? I do not know of any places that do rear ends. I think im gunna go with 342's with possi since I dont have an overdrive. Any ideas of how much this is gunna run me? I was thinking around 800$. Any help would be great. ~Jon

Im not shure where you can go in Ok.

But here's an idea for ya buy a used 700r4 O/D tranny for as cheap as you can find may be 300$

Then buy a prowertrax posi unit there around 300$ and it requires no special tools to install so you can do it and save some $$$ and now you still have 200 bux left for something else:D

What gears r in your truck now?

I also would look at Powertrax. No springs to give out, tough as hell and will unlock when you turn. I would love to have a kit like that and plus like Bruce mentioned you can install it yourself. On the gear setup look at Speetek in Midwest City. They have a shop down here that does them. Their number is 405-736-1400

Hey let me know how you like the 3.42 gears. your engine has alot of the same parts and outputs that I want my engine to have, and those are the gears I'm going for too.

I have stock 273's right now and they suck!!! I'm not gunna mess around with getting a new tranny. I have bought alot of stuff from Speedtek before...I never knew they delt with rear ends though. But still I need a few more recomendations. I wanna know where is the best place to go?

Thanks for the link Brad! Been looking for a place to straighten my frame up. How good are they?

C&C Chevy 06-10-2003 04:53 PM

If Merle's worked on this truck then they must know what they're doing. :D

84Stepper 06-10-2003 04:55 PM

thanks ill give them a call

84Stepper 06-10-2003 05:44 PM

Wow......I called up Merles and they said with 342's, Auburn possi, and all the other crap to put it all together would be 1092.09. That is alot more than I expected! I was thinking it would be around 850. Is this a good deal or not? Oh I also called Speedtek and they were about the same price.

84Stepper 06-10-2003 06:03 PM

Would it be better to buy the gears and possi through jegs or not?

C&C Chevy 06-10-2003 06:30 PM

JEGS would be the way to go if your going to DIY.

Differentials:

Auburn Performance Series $330

Powertrax No-Slip Traction System $420

Gear stuff :

Jeg's 3.73 Ring & Pinion $160

Richmond 3.73 Ring & Pinion & DIY Kit $295

I wish I could change mine out!

:burnout:

I have had good luck with Merles. I didn't price shop to much because they do good work.

C&C Chevy 06-10-2003 09:01 PM

OC, yeah. ;)

brad, do have any idea what they charge for straighting frames? I know things may run different, but any educated guess would be appreciated!

brad2 06-10-2003 09:11 PM

Nope....not a clue what they charge. There has been some bent up cars out back everytime I have been there so they must do quite a bit of frame work. I had them check mine last time it was in there but it was okay.

Thanks, I'll have to stop by there next payday... ;)
