A Gentleman Jim is up on Ebay and the vendor has put the factory build sheet up in the listing.

First actual build sheet I have seen for a GJ ...interesting that it shows a lot of COPO options listed.

That is really cool. Had a friend's dad have a Gentleman Jim's when I was a kid. I though it was really cool!

Thanks for posting that.

I like the fact that "COPO"s were applied to a GMC; COPO = Central Office Production Order; the only division to have a "central office" was....

....Chevrolet.

Some enthusiasts go ballastic when they hear people refer to a "COPO" Pontiac or "COPO" Oldsmobile. Apparently a COPO GMC is legit.

A good week for interesting build sheets ....a low mile 76 Chevy Sport listed with the original build sheet.....

I really like the blue sport but the lack of air conditioning will keep me away. It's necessary where i live. There was another blue 4x4a few months back but it was no where near the condition of this one. Are you considering this one? I know you like original paint but the low mileage may make up for the repaint.

Interesting how the Gentleman Jim's worked for tires and the speedo gearing. The build sheets and SPIDs all show G78-15 tires (XGS, YGS, ZGS codes). They actually had LR60-15s when they hit the dealer (COPO Codes 2TS, 3TS, 4TS).

All six of those codes are on this build sheet.

Because of this, I think they were built on the assembly line with the speedo gears in the tranny correct for the G78 tires. They may have even had those tires and been sent to a separate line for fitting the wider tires, the bed side and hood decals and the radio with the kickpanel speakers. They all (I've seen 5 or 6) have adapter gear boxes on the speedo cable to correct for the LR60 tires... That all jives with this build sheet.

I must confess, I do not remember how we handled "unique" builds (like GJ, or Sport trucks) but all of those components (LR60-15 tires, speedo adapters, etc) were available on regular production trucks as well - so there would be no need to run those down a special line or pull off line in a repair bay. Those could go right down the main line like any other truck.

My 80 stepside had the LR60-15 tires, and speedo adapter and I followed it down the line when built. Those components were installed on the main line. I'm a little more fuzzy on how all the stickers/decals were handled but I think they were installed in the paint shop prior to trim.

It is a very nice truck ....but I already have an original paint/stripes 76 Sport and we are running out of garage space.
The only year Sport/Street Coupe I do not have is the 77 Chevy Sport ....so I am keeping a space open in case one turns up
