700R Trans question

Okay so I'm wanting to get rid of my th350 and get a 700r. I'm just curious if you just drop the old trans and put the 700r in or is there special stuff to do since it has over drive?

I'd also do a ton of research on the web.

Re: 700R Trans question

It's a common swap, so there's lots of information out there. But it's not as simple as "bolt it on and go".

The 700R4 isn't the exact same length, so a new driveshaft is often necessary, but there is one variation of the TH350 that will often let you use your existing driveshaft. You'll need to change and/or relocate your crossmember.

4WD throws a wrench in the whole works because of the different transfer cases and variations. Mind you, it's not too terribly awful or impossible, but there are way to many variations for me to start throwing general rules and guidelines at you, each is different, some easier than others.

You're welcome and you can get that part number cheaper through Summit or Jegs

Re: 700R Trans question

I recently did this swap. It was pretty simple. The only area I had any isues in was the crossmember. I had to modify it to work with the 700. I got lucky and my driveshaft did not have to be shortened. I wired my lock up by using a brake light switch from a truck with cruise control. PM me if you want any additonal info.

I did a swap recently as well, itz like 77c10 said, my drive fit and for the crossmember I got lucky and slid mine back and 1 set of holes lined up and I drilled the other. I was worried before I started b/c I heard tons of people say that I would have to shorten the shaft and do a bunch of other stuff but it was a snap. Just be sure to run your wire for the lock up, and key it positive. Good luck
