rebuilding previously bagged rear setup...help

i recently picked up a 85 crew cab dually that is already bagged....the workmanship is poor and it drives like crap. need some ideas on what i can do to change it....

a breakdown of the issues i have with it

the bridge is horrendous looking and even though its done in 1/4" or thicker plate it appears to only be welded to the outside of the frame rail

the rearend hits the front of the bridge when dropped due the the really crude homemade 2-link set up. there is no adjustability and they even welded the axle to the bars themselves. i would like to change that as well just dont know what most would recommend. i dont plan on towing anything more than a bumperpull single car trailer but have read a ton of threads where ive seen parallel 4-link, triangulated 4-link, 3 links, 2 links....i dont know what works best?

also bag placement top of axle, inside of rame rail outside of frame rail??? its just going to be a cruiser and occasional hauler. with the 350/400 combo im not drag racing or autocrossing

shocks? the PO didnt even install shocks on this truck. i know this topic has been beat to death but im struggling to find the answers i need.

Your going to need to replace that mess with a properly engineered bridge. I would talk with our Forum Vendors and see what they can do to help

yeah the way it looks, i may have to scrap the frame from the bridge back and build one out of 2x4 stock......with the bed twisted i think the frame has twisted on the rear from this setup. my biggest question isnt so much the bridge but what set up link wise and bag placement.

I would be looking at http://www.scottshotrods.com/4link.asp Its a weld in kit a few on here run it and love it.To me a 4 link is best gives you more adjustability then a 2 or 3 link will.Bag placement and type depends the person most run two ways tho,If they do bag on link its a double convoluted bags just like you have now.Or they do bags on the axle but run tapered sleeved bags.

I have built a few of the 88-98 duallys and always used a parallel 4-link with the bags over the axle. One of those trucks was used to tow a 40ft trailer for a few years also. That's what i would look at putting under that truck.

thanks for the input...i think i am going to go the route of a parallel 4-link and move the bags over the axle. first i hafta figure out what to do with this horrendous bridge.

can you pm some pricing for what a set up like that might run. i love what ive seen from you all but i am on a really tight budget. the notch/bridge looks like it migh be wide enough to cover where i have to cut out the old junk.

I think nates notch should cover the hole from your notch now but take some measurements just to make sure.I had no idea he had a c30 rear dropmember but hes good at sneaking stuff out on us lol.
