Old bed wood

I thought you guys may like this. I replaced the wood in the bed of my 64 and looking at the old wood I decided it had too much character to just throw away. My wife has been on my butt to install some fake shutters in the front of the house but I keep finding better things to do (like take a nap). Here is what I did....

Here is what I started with.

I used the best of what I had and made 2 24x30 sheets.

I shaped the top (arch) and then used a router to allow the cross braces to be recessed. They were very helpful in adding strength to the sheets.

I bought this garage door spruce up kit from Home Depot for $20

I only installed the fake hinges. The jury is still out on the handles...

I thought it was a cool way to use the old wood. I have yet to hang them....it will be a good project for the summer.

There was an edit button and I started to edit but when I tried to save the changes it said my 30 minute window after posting had expired. Now the edit button is gone....

Im so glad my wife doesnt look at this site. If she did, Id be parting out the 63 to make swinging doors for the bar in the backyard. Very very cool way to reuse that wood!

Had to look this up, seems the wood used in the beds of the truck were Southern Longleaf Pine also known as Yellow Pine. An almost decimated species at this point.
