99 Tahoe and starter/flywheel

Replaced my strarter on my 99 2 door 2wd Tahoe about 3 weeks ago and flywheel was decent shape but not too bad. Now last night it sounded like it had a slight grinding noise for a sec before starting. I started it up this morning and it definitely had some grinding noise going on before starting. So question is, you guys think its the flywheel making the noise and I should of replaced it? Is it a major job to do this? Also, I was told that these 99 2 door 2wd Tahoes came with 2 different transmissons. I thought they all had the same tranny. How do you know which one you have? Thanks...

if its grinding it needs shims, most only require one shim. if it was a remanufactured starter more then like the mounting area was machined and the shim is included to make up for what was taken off. i've yet to do a gm that has not taken shims with a reman starter

Re: 99 Tahoe and starter/flywheel

It is a new starter, not re-man. The bolts were a bit worn and no one had any new ones in stock when he put it on. I'm wondering if at the top of the bolt where it has the cross markngs to keep it from moving is the reason why this is happening? If they are worn I have read it can cause movement and starter would be out of line. What you guys think?
