keep it a dually, or go srw?

had this truck for years now, I've been racking my brains trying to decide if I want to keep it a dually and put 19.5s on it, or convert it to srw so I can run military 37s. Always had lifted trucks, and I hate the way my 235/85s look so puny under this thing. If I go with direct bolt 19.5s and 225/70s, I will only get about an inch more height, but the big wheels will have some cool factor. Course, it will ride like crap...Other option I have is to make it srw and run the big rubber. 37s are cheap, wheels are a little hard to find, but then so are 19.5 8 lugs.
Biggest problem I face is having the narrow cab & chassis rear axle. Looks cool for tucking the 16s under the fleetside bed, and the 225/70/19.5s should fit too, not sure about 245/70/19.5s. I can run H1 wheels on the dually front axle, but not the rear. Or change the front and run normal offset wheels and spacers in the back...
Somebody tell me what to do, I can't make up my damn mind.

Sorry to hear about your dilemma, Dan. My personal preference would be to keep it dually and put the 19.5's on. Aluminum or steel. Like them both.

Drive 10 miles see 10 srw's, drive 100 miles see 1 dually. For me its dually all the way. But then again I'm very biased.

If it was me i would only keep it a dually if i towed a lot with it if not single wheel it.

There's always that guy on eBay that sells the 19.5 inch wheels pretty cheap. They are steel and direct bolt on (bread truck wheels). I contacted him about a set for my dually and he was very willing to work on shipping charges to get me a set reasonable.

Re: keep it a dually, or go srw?

after years of searching I finally found some 19.5s, but of course now I'm leaning slightly toward srw. Found some chrome wheels local, however that doesn't solve the problem of my rear axle being to narrow and my front axle being too wide. I thought the front was just a matter of removing the dually adaptor, but apparently it's more of a machining thing. IDK if I can just put spacers in back to get the wheels out enough, but the fronts are way too wide. Unless I used reverse offset H1 wheels. Which I can't find locally. And which would be even more wrong in back, I'd have to put a wide dually rear axle under it instead.
Never had all these worries with the multitude of 4 wheeled trucks I used to own.

Swap me your cab and chassis dually rear end and you can have my 3500 dually rear, everybody wins!

duallys are cool but at the end of the day i figure srw is more practical for my needs so im converting my dually to srw....to each their own

Here's what I'll say...

When Riggs went to the GMC dealership he bought a dually. The man lived in a dilapidated trailer by the beach, was a cop, but bought a dually. Why? Cause it could do things a srw couldn't and you'll never know when you might wind up needing it. One day some angsty south africans kidnapped his friends and you know what? He just had to pull down their house with his truck. As much as I'd like to think any GMC, even a srw would be up to the task, it probably wouldn't have been.

Keep the dually. You never know if or when you'll need to pull down some angsty south african drug cartel's house. (Or other similarly unforeseeable circumstance)

^^^ That has to be the best dually purchasing reasoning ever.

if you want a srw, sell your dually to someone who wants a dually and buy yourself a srw
