'65 GMC LWB, my FIRST TIME!
Hey all,
I'm brand new to the board and wanted to ask a few questions, if I might? My wife and I ran across a 1965 GMC the other day, and fell in love right away. I would love whatever advice I could get. The body is straight, never been hit that I can see. The wheels are 8-lug. The wood from the bed is rotted out, but I don't mind the work it'll take to bring it back. It's got the original V-6, just touched 100K miles, with the "CUSTOM" badging on the cab uprights behind each door. It's a manual 4-speed transmission. There's some rust-thru on the cab-floor along the panel in front of each door, but the rocker-panels are solid and dry. We met that gal who's selling it, and test-drove it the same day. It runs strong. I have my mechanic going to look at it tomorrow afternoon. What else should I be asking or looking for? What's a fair price? My wife says I look like I belong in the truck, and I gotta admit It was SO FUN to drive! I look forward to any response and perspective, and thanks in advance! |

a better answere to what is a fare price is what are they asking. you live in an area where there are alot of these trucks in pretty good condition. i to because i live in so. cali. one thing with the 3/4 ton and the v6 you will not get very good gas milage. but on the other hand welcome to the madness if you decide to buy one.i myself have a 64 gmc and it is alot of fun.

She's asking $2500...I just got off the phone with a buddy's dad who retired from GM after a long career as a developmental mechanic out here at the old GM Proving Grounds outside of Phoenix. His sight-unseen opinion was "walk away". He loves the body style, but doesn't like the V6 paired with the 4-speed for reliability and mileage.

If it's been a lifelong Az truck rust shouldn't be an issue, check thoroughly for rust. If it has a 351 motor mpg won't be great.

2,500 is too much.

Depends on what you wanna do with it. That V6 is bulletproof and will probably outlast your grandkids. It was waaayyy overingineered. It's a good conversation starter too. Most people will swear to you that it doesn't exist. Win some bets :)
Take a look at 6066gmcguy.com Or you can just rip it out and be cookie cutter by dropping a 350 in it, but really if you're going to do that go with a chevy instead. |
