Most reasonable locker upgrade??
Hi guys. I have a 70 C20 that I'd like to have posi in the rear. It is a one legged tire burner that needs to burn more evenly.
It has a 14 bolt FF 4.10 rear but not posi or locked. Don't know ring gear size. What would be the best bang for the buck to get both tires spinning while going straight? I know it should get new bearings and seals at the same time as the rear end has 300K miles on it. Thanks in advance |
Re: Most reasonable locker upgrade??
Will this Detroit Locker fit a 70 C20 full floater 4.11? I have emaile the seller too. Anyone have experience with these?

Re: Most reasonable locker upgrade??
First off do you have the original axle? An Eaton 5200 (HO52) or Dana 5500 (Dana 60) would have been stock. The "14 bolt" is a later axle and the internals are not a direct interchange with the Eaton 5200/7200 axles. IIRC the later locker will fit in the Eaton case but the axle spline is wrong.
If you have an Eaton then the Eaton 5200/7200 (HO52/72) specific NoSpin is the only option as far as I know. |

Funny you should ask.
Because I just did on the "4X4" forum. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=566255 |
Re: Most reasonable locker upgrade??
Thanks Tim.
:dohh:Yes I have the original axle in there. SO it looks like I will have to go another way. I think I'd like both wheels to spin when I nail the gas or go off road. I have been stuck a couple times and putting on the e-brake got me out once or twice. Not every time. |
