Talk me into or talk me out of it.
so here I am again. I have this debate. Part of me wants to finish building my suburban. The other part? It wants another Volkswagen. Tell me what you think should I get rid of my suburban to get something I can actually drive and play with more? Or do I finish building the suburban to have something that I can drive every now and then and costs more when I actually take it out?
let me know your thoughts guys. :mm: Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
So how many thumbs up can you get in a VW?

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
I have never understood the allure of a vw.... keep the 'burb IMO

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
What you do for fun could play a part in the decision making. For me and my family, we hardly go anywhere without bringing stuff like bikes, surfboards, and scooters along. No sweat in the burb, whether it be for fun or work there's plenty of room in back for what yer doin'. Can't say that for a bug ..hmm, not even a squareback, really.

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
Really? You come to a Burb forum and think we'd tell you to get a VW? Yep, get the Vdub, save some gas money. Sell the Burb.

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
I agree with OEM. Really think about what you're going to do with it in the end, then make your decision. I'm sure someone on the board wouldn't mind taking your suburban off your hands anyways.

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
If I go back to a vw it would be a late 90s gti with a vr6. That's about the only way I would do it. I really just wish I could have both...but that isn't gonna happen. Maybe I should just work to make the burb a corner carver. That is what I miss the most about having the vw. Any inspiration?

I would go to something along these lines just to share.

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
A cool burb that gets attention everywhere you go. Something you can actually work on and repair (fairly) easily. Or a "Hot hatchback" that you need a computer degree to open the hood? For me, the only way I'd even talk about it, would be in the context of discussing my recent nightmare. ;)

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
The VW looks just about like everything else on the road.
Stand out in the crowd, Finish the Burb. |
Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
What's wrong with you.. Finish what you started... Didn't your momma teach you that? and look at your signature line about "building trucks in the name of your grandpa"..... Doesn't say building VW's for your grandpa! :-)
then--do the cool thing and build a VW... You'll need that suburban for picking up the VW unless you buy a running/driving one to begin with.. I built the VW first.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...o/100_2381.jpg |
Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
just bring the burb down to me, ill play with it while you go chase import skirt!

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
Just my 2 cents worth...if you want a VW, get it, as you can always hide it in the back of the Burb, lol

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
I have a Suzuki Samurai that is on 33s and has 5.12 gears for a small car. But I can't drive it for fun on the road. I might even consider selling it but then I don't have a running backup vehicle. I am having a really hard time with this decision. Dang it! Why can't afford them all?!? :banghead:

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
The great thing about a Suburban is that you can drive it as a beater, and have a ton of fun with it.
I've put over 60,000 miles on the one in my avatar in the last 7 years, and have driven it through 20 states. Reliable mechanicals, electrical, cooling and brakes, and worry about the body later... I hate rat-rods, but beaters are cool... Beaters ALWAYS have potential. Your 'Burb has potential. LOTS of potential. Get it running and reliable, and then make your decision. I totally get the whole "carving" aspect of wanting to drive a little zippy car... but driving a Suburban every day, and appreciating for what it is, is a lot of fun too. On another subject, I very, very much want that hood ornament off yours. Since you're selling the truck, would you mind selling me that Jet? I've been looking for one for the nose of mine. -Brad |
Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
So funny thing for you all...the car that I found that talked me into putting my Burb up for sale was nothing like the VW that I was initially thinking. It was a 1941 Buick. I showed it to my wife and she was all for it. And getting her on board for a car build is a HUGE plus in my book. But I missed the Buick. So now, I am back to looking and debating a bit. If the right offer comes in I will let it go. But if not, I just might put this old GMC together.

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
Seems like you just lost interest in the GMC. Last I checked, '41 Buicks didn't make the best corner carvers OR fun haulers. If your hearts not in it, bail out on the Burb and find something that gets your juices flowing. Your hard work minus inspiration sounds more like drudgery. Next!

Lol. Thanks for that! I am going to keep it listed for now. And work to get inspired about it again. I'm sure you guys will be updated along the way.

Re: Talk me into or talk me out of it.
The Suburban fits on a trailer. ;)
I really have just lost interest in it. I want to get motivated again but just don't know if I will or not. Posted via Mobile Device |
