88-98 Crew Cab short bed
I was over around Fort Knox the other day, and saw a Crew Cab Short Bed 95-98. Don't remember if it was a Chevy or GMC. I didn't think GM built any in that configuration in that body style. Am I wrong, or is this a project truck that somebody has created from a crew cab long bed or dually?

I think they made them in 99-00 from the factory. There were also some made by conversion companies. Or there are those made by owners/shops:

If you saw a half-ton, it was definitely an aftermarket conversion. If it was a 3/4 ton, it could have been a factory truck that, Ackattack mentioned, would be a '99-'00 model. They also built 1 ton crew cab shortbed duallies for '99 and '00 as well, one of which is at the top of my list of models to get my hands on one day.

KQQL and John, how did your trucks come set up? 60/40? Buckets? Cloth or leather or vinyl? I would absolutely LOVE to get my hands on either one of your trucks.

Here's mine, it's a 99-2wd. I bought it last year, love it. Mine has two 60/40 splits, cloth. I have seen pics of leather interiors though, with buckets in the front and a bench in the rear.

Re: 88-98 Crew Cab short bed
i just bought a OBS crew cab short bed 2500 light duty. it has the 8 lug suspension with 3.73 gears. i want to change it over to 6 lug for wheel choice. i have everything to chang out the front suspension. Ive been told i should keep the same gear ratio. can i just switch out the axle shafts from 8 lug to 6 lug and long as the splines and lenghts are the same? Ive seen where some guys have switched to a 2000 and up Silverado rear axle with the disc brakes.

Re: 88-98 Crew Cab short bed
There are more options for wheels in 8 lug than 6. But, you can swap the whole rear, or if you find a 6 lug 14sf, then you can swap from the backing plates out.

It's your truck lol. 14 semi float. Don't have to get wheels that stick way out, it's up to the buyer, and companies know to make what the customer wants. I can't stand that look either, but then I hate 20"+ wheels lol.

Light Duty would be the 6-lug option. The 8-lug housings are the Semi or Full floating differential w/the full float option being the stronger variant.
8-lug wheels..... |
